If you argue like this, physics are invented too.

I mean is the science of physics not invented?

By that logic, everything is invented, nothing is discovered, except things we can see with our own eyes, like an island. That's pushing it IMO

see this notion will perturb you to no end. bc the idea of sacred geometry and s*** pushes me towards a creator but for some...it doesnt

To invent something is to design something. To discover something is to find it. No one designed Pi, we found it. No one designed Pythagorean theorem, we found it. We invented axioms, we continue to discover new maths and invent new axioms to help explain them.

everything you learn about in physics was discovered. mechanics, magnetism, wave theory, thermodynamics, light, fluids... that's all discovery. applying those discoveries to make something is invention

I mean that's the point, the fields of science and math were created to make sense of what we see in the physical world

On the topic of axioms, can’t you make the argument that they’re not invented since they’re inherently true

where do i subscribe to these kinds of threads

    i'm here for philosophy ktt2

even something like accepting an entire world exists before and after us is jarring at times. Like people on twitter are burying this herman cain twitter account thats still going...and this man ceased to exist earlier. a fragment of his being that he interacted with for years...is still going...but hes not

s*** is jarring idk what else to say. I love philosophy

I used the word axiom wrong lmfao, i just mean the number system and methods and characters we use to represent and process numbers. Shoulda double checked that definition before using it, just wanted to sound smart :'(

    I don’t think it’s a perception is what I’m saying.

Having something and having nothing are two inherently different things. Whatever you quantify something and nothing as doesn’t matter, something and nothing are different. That’s not perception, that’s a fact. There is no perception in which something and nothing is the same.

And that’s just one of the axioms. If they’re inherently true, I don’t think it’s just my consciousness’ perception.

It wasn’t invented because math existed within everything in our universe since the beginning of time and it wasn’t discovered because you can’t put a time stamp on the understanding as a whole, just like earlier species like Australopithecus knew having from not having and that’s already math. The word we’re looking for is developed. Math was developed alongside our species and will continue to be developed since the universe expands every second and humans will never be done learning until our extinction. Modern electricity was discovered, an incandescent light bulb was invented, math was developed, like language because everyone was born emitting sound, you can’t say “x” person invented or discovered “y” spoken language, speech is different from computer coding, that language was invented and speaking was developed not discovered or invented

Ahaha okay yes then I agree with you. I’d say the axioms are discovered.

What you’re describing, I would label as syntax or format. And again I agree that that in and of itself is invented.
