Can listen to the White Album every day of the summer

It’s amazing how Rivers pulled this off so effortlessly yet it kinda is the Blue album of this generation, that’s how good it is

my favorites are Do You Wanna Get High? and Jacked Up

LA Girlz and Endless Bummer are close tho

It perfectly captures what makes Blue so good. Great pop hooks, great driving guitar leads, and witty yet sincere storytelling. LA Girlz is my favorite

Dam that is well put boss

What's funny about LA Girlz is that I would say it’s like top 3 of the album that sounds straight up Blue right so you’d assume it’s a Cuomo written gem, but I was surprised to find out actually Brian came up with really the bones of it:

I knew he had credit on it but I assume it was for the guitar part since the song has this two lead solo parts they share

Rivers definitely improved it with his lyrics and what not tho

(Brian has a side project that’s more retro influenced, Sean Lennon worked with him on the first album)

But anyway I’d say Summer Elaine and Drunk Dori is the underrated one, love the Nirvana vibe on the verses very Lithium guitar, also shout out to the deluxe songs “Fake Smiles and Nervous Laughter” and “Friend Of A Friend”, they’re so great I’d actually replace them with some of the songs on the album

Haha part of me think it’s genius how Rivers just did that like it was nothing, in fact he stated how he was confused how they were “redoing blue album”

That’s talent! but I get what he means tbh

But I think you would like Everything Will Be Alright In The End tho

Damn I’ve gotta check out the white album.

Blue album, Pinkerton, green album and maladroit are all amazing. Some very high highs on make believe as well. I kinda stopped checking in after that, but for their first four albums alone they’re one of my favorite bands ever.

believe me i've listened to every album haha. i like ewbaite, but i feel like if the narrative of it being an apology album was removed people wouldn't check for it that much.
there's some good songs on there though, foolish father is great for sure.

been a big weezer fan since i listened to them growing up even was I was really little, but i've thought like, does weezer have some of the biggest variable quality range of almost any band? it's crazy they have stuff like Blue, White, & Pinkerton in their discography and also have Raditude

Dam real i actually agree on your take on ewbaite, hell I know some behind the scenes stuff of the making of that album that still taints my judgement a lil to this day

But yknow what it’s just music at the end of the day heh and more I go back to it now if I just take it as it is without the damage control context it’s still some nice songs, some skips, but Da Vinci, British, are all amazing Rivers gem and he did put a lot work into it despite the goal, and even some sounds here and there that are new so I appreciate that he doesn’t fully compromise (like the trilogy songs gets pretty proggy-stadium which was unheard for Weezer)

You don’t like the new songs tho? Hero isn’t too far off of White imo

Yeah, it's music it's all subjective. Sometimes I come across too dismissive of the band, but I do like their output obv. I think that just goes with being a fan of weezer lol.

Hm, I'm mixed on the new stuff. I like the chorus to Hero, but there's something about the verses that don't sit well with me. If I had to put my finger on it, I like Weezer when the songs are kind of sludgy but driving? Idk I can't really think of the right word. The newer songs seem a little bit poppier and upbeat without any of the awkwardness.

It’s not just you don’t worry lol I feel people are somehow more hard on and demanding from Weezer more than others, maybe that’s a great sign of a band we will forever take for granted and stay underrated, like why do they have a 100 score for Pinkerton on metacritic yet they aren’t shown on the top list on the website of the albums that have highest scores?

Yeah I can see that, I myself first thought the verses were too.. lost Hurley ish, I’m usually not a fan when Rivers goes for that type of guitar attack, kinda like Back To The Shack type

But the wonderful makes a great payoff, so in insight it’s verses that does a good counter balance to set it up, that will the pre choruses too

What I love the most is the bridge tho, Rivers shredding freeballin’ with Beach Boys harmonies on top of it, these are the core of his inspirations put in one haha, yet the song is so coherent, that’s how he’s also a genius that we sleep on

I don’t mind these being less quirky because that’s what the album theme is on, pure 80’s, so it’s too be excepted, if anything the lyrics stays very Rivers

But I love PD anyway, I’m not much a purist either way, I just see it as there’s room for everything or time for anything

    That’s an interesting thought

Thing is I think boring music is a if not more offensive than bad music, so it’s a matter of perspective on that matter really

But really they’re the only band from that era still going strong and relevant, lot of other are falling off

For example new Green Day is horrendous, it still sounds rock sure lol but it’s way worst in many other ways than Raditude if you ask me

And like the Pixies new stuff in general sure isn’t cringy as Raditude but isn’t it much a snooze tho? solo stuff Noel and Liam are putting out? (one goes disco and the other just writes the same ballad for days)

Is anyone anywhere even still having the last Smashing Pumpkins eps on rotation lol?

Even outside the 90’s act: Lou Reed, John Lennon, Bowie, you name it, they all have dropped turds at some point

But I think the difference is they’re glorified or put on a pedestal somehow and Weezer doesn’t seem to get that same standard

So that’s where I come from, but even then they have enough highs that outdoes the lows, 3 classic albums, which is a similar situation to many bands actually, here the difference is that one came super late in their run tho, very rare are the other ones pulling this off

It’s actually great you mentioned this because it reminded me of something real cool for another “of the day” post

But also yeah dude should really do some follow up, I’m sure he could have great material to work with even more now than even picking from White - PD and Black, I can see lots of beats from that era working good with some Yeezy stuff
