My man how you liking Hero?!
I love the hook, verses are only okay but overall a pretty good single

The bridge hope the album taps more into that duality of shredding x harmonies
Of the infos we got we know this song is gonna be on it (but in English, like he did for California Kids and I’m Just Being Honest)
It’s originally a EWBAITE demo that had Ric Ocasek vocals on it (not surprising in hindsight, the verses are total The Cars vibe lol) wonder if they’ll keep his take, would be a nice homage
But yeh can totally see this song fit the Van Weezer aesthetic

💬 QUOTE OF THE DAY 💬
“I think most of the songs on Teal are probably better than the originals. I never know what to expect from you and I love artists like that. And you have a great sense of humor. You’re a bright boy, and I really admire what you do."

this still a banger
this still a banger
And Toto gave the love back
But yeah I think my favorite from Teal is No Scrubs the funny thing is that they been wanting to do cover album forever, they have massive history of doing covers live and studio lol it just was the best window right there really
Rivers mentioned how he got inspired by Phil Collins approach of a Supremes cover he did while reading the Wikipedia page for it seeing a quote from Phil saying how lot of covers try to make the song sound different but he just wanted to replicate and really respect the original song and how it was exactly recorded and performed
The whole podcast they did is nice, Elton goes on about the Black album too, says how he loves The Prince iirc

think i never listened to the full teal album
thats another one for the list ig

It’s a fun time, just nothing pretentious
The main thing I take away from it is the Black Sabbath cover sung by the guitarist Brian Bell, his voice is just like Ozzy on it it’s scary
And well, Rivers singing No Scrubs in total confidence is badass
He said he thought of switching the gender but read a random tweet saying if you cover a song you better own it so he just did it like the original song haha
Also Billie Jean, Rivers said he listened to every single vocal tales MJ did because MJ did so many adlibs on it and tried to capture that as much as he could
But yeah they have so many cool covers from even before blue album days, but I’ll save those for post of the day, hell even we still have more to hear that hasn’t been released! the one I want the most is the home demo cover of Surfer Girl (not sure when it was recorded tho?) and their 1993 live take of The Beatles Baby You’re a Rich Man, that sounds like a cool stand out cover
💬 QUOTE OF THE DAY 💬
From 2015:
Songfacts: At last count, there have been seven tribute albums for the Pixies. Which have been some of your favorite renditions of Pixies tunes by other artists?
Frank Black: "Velouria" by Weezer.

Hahaha
I think this is from The Kitchen Tapes? One of my favorite of their more obscure tracks:
Edit: Mikey in the thumbnail 😢
Here’s another. This one’s from that insanely fertile period between Green and Maladroit. “Fall Together” is good and all, but I always liked this song more. From a Goat Punishment gig filmed for an old HBO show called Reverb:

Holy s*** my man cotton stepping in with straight heat that song is actually a personal favorite too, Idk why I just adore how Rivers voice and melody sounds in the verses over the lead guitar harmonics? and that solo, goddam
Kitchen Tape is a must, my favorite is Let’s Sew Our Pants Together, I was gonna save it later as a highlight for a “post of the day” to follow up on the one I made earlier about the Pixies since that song, to me, like you hear Pixies influence throughout Kitchen Tape and Blue album ofc, especially Undone: that bassline just screams Kim Deal!
But man is that song the quintessential Pixies type beat, and what a marvelous one at it, can’t be topped
Demo for Say It Ain’t So is killer too
Also yeah RIP Mikey, dude became a painter and would post talk and share a lot on facebook with fans.. he was always a sweetheart to me

!https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lPaVFrpUQ9kGP was a crazy era mann I’m gonna make a post of the day for that too, We Go Together, another left out gem.. ak Little Songs right? idk why somehow something bout this song is so Beatles to me.. something about the vocal melodies doesn’t sound too far off from something early Beatles would pull out, like near We Can Work It Out.
My pick would be So Low, this definitely should’ve made the cut!
Pre Make Believe has a crazy pool of songs in the work too (in fact not many people know but Polynesia was one of them) some great stuff too.. love Hey Domingo such a cool vibe to this day, I still have hope Rivers does something with Everybody Wants A Chance To Feel All Alone (it’s possible, after all he finished Burning Sun, Green era demo for Pacific Daydream and even a section on Byzantine was taken from an Avant Garde song!) it would totally fit the theme of Ok Human I can really visualize this song with just strings:
Like of all song that should be finished and released this one is up there in my book
What’s your ranking @cotton_dockers ?

I’ve kind of been in and out since Make Believe; the only things I really like that have come out between then and now are “I Want You To”, Everything Will Be Alright in the End and “L.A. Girlz”. So of the stuff I know, I guess it would be:
Pinkerton
Blue
Everything....
Maladroit
Green
Make Believe
I heard Pinkerton in the seventh grade, and it was significant for me because all I’d known about the record before purchasing it was that it was supposedly their worst one and it ended up completely kicking ass, so it was the first time I realized that critics can be way off and you have to hear things for yourself. I love the way the drums sound on it. Some of the lyrics didn’t hold up and are super loser-ish but Blue has the same problem.
Blue is just a great power pop album. The first three songs in particular are all so well-crafted. “Only in Dreams” is my second-favorite Weezer song (my favorite being “I Just Threw Out the Love of My Dreams”). Anyone who likes Weezer should check out Pavement; I don’t think they were an actual influence of Weezer’s but the guitar parts in “Only in Dreams” and “Undone” are very Pavement-y nonetheless, and both bands loved an “ooh ooh ooh” backing vocal. I always thought their singer and Rivers sound a little similar on this song:
Everything Will Be Alright in the End I only heard once all the way through when it came out but I recall being thoroughly impressed by it. Maladroit is like Green but looser and with real guitar solos. Green I’ve come to appreciate more for what it is, and I still would rather listen to it in its entirety than Make Believe in its entirety but I don’t completely hate Make Believe; “Perfect Situation” is a great, classic Weezer song, and I like “Hold Me”.

Nice to see most ppl so far I talk to on ktt agree with me on Make Believe, I know @Danny isn’t much a fan either
Thing is that album just comes off so.. like it’s the only time Rivers sounded so tired, like a yawn, the songs too, maybe Rock Rubin production doesn’t help, it’s so drained of life.. dull, mid life uninspired
Which is funny because it was a reaction to Maladroit, which was itself a reaction to Green, which was a reaction to Pinkerton and.. well yeah that’s mostly what every weezer albums are!
Did you hear the new songs? they’re fun!
But either I can’t stress enough how much you’re missing out on the White Album! It boggles my mind you tried Everything but no that one! didn’t LA Girlz blow you away? that song was a breath of fresh air of such inspired and youthful work!
I know all Pavement stuff, I’m thinking of making a post about it as Stephen stated how he loves them ☺️
What an honor to get to talk to an OG tho have you seen them live?!
