Travesty. Should have been in all of their set lists since the White Album.

Right? what’s worse is that they have yet to play Fake Smiles And Nervous Laughter live 😨
🛋 SONG OF THE DAY 🛋
Maybe my favorite off of Maladroit? 🤔 Burndt Jamb got to be close second ...such unique standout groove of their catalogue that one is
Funny thing is I know there’s so many outstanding beautiful killer Rivers guitar solos, but I don’t know why I absolutely love this one... maybe because the multiple layers of fuzz or whatever, it makes it sound so crushing, yet it’s so melodic.. I love it

💬 QUOTE OF THE DAY 💬
“A whole record I wish we had written is the ‘Blue Album’ from Weezer. The song’s are so simple in a way, but they just penetrate. It’s just a great record. And I remember sitting back and saying man I wish I was that band and I wish I’d wrote this batch of songs, ’cause they’re so fun to play and so fun to sing. Early on we used to do covers of ’em—we used to actually soundcheck with that whole record back like on the early days of “Adrenaline” and stuff and people used to bug out, like here we are in this metal band and we’re sitting here soundchecking with the whole first Weezer record.”

Deftones are actually how I discovered Weezer. I’d actually only seen a couple lines from that quote before, the whole thing is very interesting. Really cool to see how big of fans they really were.

Haha that’s dope! I’ve discovered some bands too that way, like Weezer themselves covered lot of stuff! (even John Denver yes I first heard of John Denver because of Weezer lol)
In 2015 Chino also said when talking about their Say It Ain’t So cover:
“Weezer write flawless pop songs. I’ve been a fan since they released their first album Weezer, 1994. They have this wholesome American vibe around them. They’re awesome.”
There’s also this 2019 quote, similar but still cool to see him giving a shout out:
“Weezer’s first record 1994’s ‘The Blue Album’ was such a big record for us. Although musically we were in completely different genres, I think that those songs are so good and they’re so fun to listen to. So that record was on all the time, in our dressing room or wherever. We just gradually started learning them, and maybe playing them at soundcheck for fun. At some point between our songs we started playing Say It Ain’t So live. We never actually recorded any Weezer covers, but I think we pretty much learned every song off that record and every now and then we would pop one of them into the middle of our show. People would trip out, because Weezer is hard to dislike – especially that first record. People would get excited to hear it, ‘Why are they playing this?’ It didn’t fit with what we were doing, but we enjoyed it. We were having fun.”
📻 SONG OF THE DAY 📻
I think this one is a hidden treasure, the story behind this is cool: if you listen to it with no context it sounds like a band from the 00s generation influenced by weezer, but the singer Kevin Ridel was actually the singer of Avant Garde back in the 80s, Rivers band pre weezer!
They’re super close friends, so much that for this band Rivers became their manager for some time, so it’s only natural that this collaboration would happen.
Rivers even wrote a song about his friend Kevin: “I Admire You So Much” from Alone II.
It’s a beautiful mellow song, Rivers isn’t ultra present but enough to bring some lines and sweet harmonies and while this is criminally slept on I think lot of fans would love this song.
(I like the percussion that feels Pet Sounds influenced? but maybe that’s just me)

Yeah, we met weezer. I like 'em. They're one of those bands you see on TV and go, 'I just like 'em.' I think they're pretty alright."
-He characterized Rivers Cuomo as a "very strange man," but added- "He's my new favourite rock star. He freaked me out. He's just the total opposite to me, man. He's just very timid. He's like Yoda or something. But I respect that. He's a top man. There's totally a place for him. He's like the Andy Warhol of f***ing music, that's what I think."
Liam Gallagher, 2005
In 1999 while isolating himself after the “failure” of Pinkerton, Rivers Cuomo kept with him a Encyclopedia Of Pop he did to study great pop songs and learn from it, it includes the entirety of Nirvana’s catalogue but also Oasis’s catalogue.
He of course along with weezer has covered Oasis many times since live.
They were actually gonna tour together in 2009, before plans fell apart as Oasis had to cancel their US leg of shows.
