  • As might be clear, the percentage of obese or overweight people in countries such as the UK and USA is high and is only growing higher. However, despite this, there has been little effort on the part of government, business or society to actually solve it; we're pretty much stuck with the typical "personal responsibility" ideal that Western nations love so much. What small things have been done haven't exactly been effective.

So, what do you personally feel can be done to solve the obesity crisis? Looking at things realistically, of course, as something like a 'magic weight loss pill' or a total ban on all junk food aren't happening.

However if you wish to look at this in a more theoretical light then feel free. Consider what actions might be possible instead of simply what's most realistic.

For me personally I'm not entirely sure. So much of this is based on personal problems, and on top of that you have so many more people affected than even the most prominent of d****; it really makes things difficult overall. Couple that with society's seeming refusal to put in any legislation and the options as to what can realistically be done are rather limited in my eyes.

No lol, I just think its some deformity and can bring various problems later in life. Some people are naturally big-boned though, but still vast majority engage in habits that causes them to get obese

I really wish government put more effort in enforcing and restricting all these garbage ass foods. Ofc they won't cause the food industry will lose out on profits and instead focusing on going to the gym, which helps but only by like 20%

Higher wages, universal healthcare, more affordable housing.

People don't eat like s*** because they want to they do it because they have to. They do it because they dont have time, money, or energy to eat healthy. This is a failure of our society on multiple fronts, and solving these three most basic things would give you the greatest ROI on the average citizens health.

You can talk about sugar taxes and shifting subsidies around but at the end of the day people want to be healthy and eat good food. But when you're run ragged by a 40+ hour work week tryna juggle a dozen different bills and payments plus your kids or whatever you're gonna let things slide and you'd rather you and ya kids be fed than homeless or whatever you know.

its true, they're f***ing us over and a lot of people are eating trash without realizing it

I think your desire to fix other people's bodies stems from the desire to change your own appearance, and practical answers to the question (ridding the FDA of immense corruption and re-instituting stringent laws on food processing) won't actually be as compelling as the idea of a "culture shift" that compels people to change their behavior

Lower the prices of actually healthy food. Poverty and obesity are linked, and it’s cheaper than ever to make and buy huge volumes of garbage fat food

Stop allowing companies to show nutrition labels for something you eat in 1 sitting as 3 servings.

Reduce the amount of sugar inserted or used in food tbh.

Cap the hours you can eat fast food.

Agreed, there are so many factors influencing this epidemic and honestly its a systematic problem too. People working long ass hours being stressed, poor families not being able to afford good healthy food, and just lack of accessibility all around. I mean man its not only leading to obesity, but worse mental health, messed up metabolism, stunted growth, and even dental issues

It's sad how much America has these problems, back in the days where my family grew up in Iran hardly anyone had these problems. Now even in that country these problems are gradually increasing

There’s no such thing as big boned 99% of the time the person being overweight has a normal sized skeleton. You can Google it if you don’t believe me

So I did find out about 15% of the people have larger frame than the average person BUT it doesn't really account that much for extra weight

Yeah the impact of the western diet on other cultures is awful and it's directly linked to our global diabetes epidemic. One good example of the effect of the western diet on other cultures and their peoples health is in post-war Japan. They saw falling carbs, rising fats, all very standard stuff in terms of the western diet, and their rates of diabetes have grown 3-4x since the 80s.

I think when ppl say big boned they just mean like a big person with wide shoulders n hips. Not actually like thicker bones. Cuz like ppl obv built different some are naturally slender and some are built like brick s***houses.

But often ppl is just fat, yeah.
