Bro don’t underestimate walking 4 miles (10,000 steps a day), especially as a morbidly obese person. Simply transitioning to a higher protein diet (NOT KETO), cutting out junk/sugar and walking will shed a ton of fat over a couple months. Also it’s just easily accessible and better on your joints. Obese people will certainly work up a sweat doing a vigorous walk

Obviously running and higher intensity exercise will yield better results, but it’s all about getting that foot in the door. Once they make exercise a daily lifestyle choice, then they can ramp it up

I also believe that everybody should be doing some form of weight training. Doing cardio exclusively will make you lose a lot of muscle over time

Walking by itself will not shed a ton of fat. Calorie restriction combined with that can, but there’s also variables such as the pace of the walk, any hills, etc. everybody walks throughout the day, even fat people do. And if he’s losing a lot of actual fat in just a couple months, he’s most likely going on a starvation diet which can cause stretchy skin and a nasty look. Most of the weight lost in the beginning would be glycogen and water weight. Some of it will be fat but he needs to train also or else his body will look even worse. And bro I already mentioned bodyweight training (walking included) in the beginning can help you get over that first hump, but once your body adjusts( it happens quick) they gotta start picking up the pace.

Honestly, ppl eat like s*** because it’s the cheapest most accessible stuff available. You’ll never find a 444 equivalent with actual good food

Dude you realize you can eat out and still look good right? It’s eating in excess that’s the problem

I think eating in excess is definitely an issue, but EOD ppl are lazy, so we’d also have to call into question foods that are readily available most of which are cheap, “fun” accessible, and the epitome of bad health

Comin from someone who eats out and looks *great

I mean, I understand what you’re getting at, but not every meal has to be organic and 100% clean. I was never a fan of gluten free bread brown rice and cottage cheese or non flavored yogurt. And I do think people should have access to cheese burgers or fries every now and then. Even soda. It’s what separates our country from the rest.

What I do think needs to happen is mandatory classes taken , the same way math, English, history or taught, that teach the basics of nutrition, the science of gaining weight, carbs, protein, fats etc. i also think there should be mandatory fitness classics, not thebullshit classes in schools that we have now that pass every kid who shows up if they have their uniform on..I mean real hardcore training classes that really get kids healthy. This system has already been implemented in places like Russia and it shows because those people are jacked. The teachers can also educate how to eat and train properly more in depth, and teach more about the dangers of obesity. I think with this basic knowledge, people would have a much better understanding of what they need to do to get in shape. The way the school systems are set up, you kind of have to go out of your way to learn about this stuff unless it’s something you’re majoring in. Even if they do mention it in certain segments, it’s not a major necessity like some other classes.

America makes obesity so acessible lmao. I mean programs to raise consciousness and adding incentives to healthy lifestyle are cool but y'all gotta tackle the demon really

Higher wages, universal healthcare, more affordable housing.

People don't eat like s*** because they want to they do it because they have to. They do it because they dont have time, money, or energy to eat healthy. This is a failure of our society on multiple fronts, and solving these three most basic things would give you the greatest ROI on the average citizens health.

You can talk about sugar taxes and shifting subsidies around but at the end of the day people want to be healthy and eat good food. But when you're run ragged by a 40+ hour work week tryna juggle a dozen different bills and payments plus your kids or whatever you're gonna let things slide and you'd rather you and ya kids be fed than homeless or whatever you know.

In the US/CAN, takeout/fast food is seen as cheaper and more accessible? 🤔 Here it's the opposite.

  • Jun 18, 2022

take 90 percent of the preservatives and s*** thats lowkey kind of killing us in most food. setting up nutrition courses in schools. rethink our relationship with seed oils. rethinking our portion sizes/how much meat we eat (especially beef). idk i think these are good places to start along with everybody else's comments

Here's the thing, what people underestimate about walking is itll help increase your lung capacity which is actually correlates to life expectancy

That’s another thing. People always want to lose weight FAST. And there’s no healthy/sustainable way to do that. Diet industry should encourage people to make small lifestyle tweaks to slowly lose weight over time but that’s not where the moneys at

Plus wouldn't losing weight very fast result in excess loose skin? Which would require an expensive, invasive surgery to remove

My sister in law is getting the surgery and she's planning on taking out a $24,000 loan for it

Jeff Nippard actually put up a great post on his community tab in response to his video on if obesity is a choice. It's a great read, especially for those people who believe it's all on the individual

I get what he is trying to say but I disagree with it. First off, comparing poverty to obesity is wrong. Poverty is not in your control at all. I was born to poor parents so I spent a lot of my early life poor. I was only able to leave that environment due to luck not hard work. Sure I had to work hard too but I knew many people who worked harder than me but they never reached the same level of success because they didn't have the same luck. Obesity is different. If you stop eating as much on a daily basis you will lose weight. There is no luck to it. Sure it may be harder for some people than other but its important to point out we are talking about obese individuals not overweight ones. This isn't just a small amount of eating in excess.
To give a***ogy that I think is closer to the obesity I would say high blood pressure. Both of my parents have high blood pressure so I would be genetically more likely to have it as well and if I had a higher than normal blood pressure (i.e. 130/90) I could attribute it to that. But if my BP was insanely high (i.e. 170/110) then that would be my own fault and lack of self care.

    • Free healthcare for all so people can get preventative care that will keep them healthy long term and ease the strain on our healthcare system as a whole.

    • Free school lunch/breakfast program for every kid no matter what. Providing free lunch to kids has proven to be ridiculously inexpensive and just about every school district can afford to do it considering the benefits. If you local schools don’t offer a free lunch you should be asking the people in charge why. Lunch programs will help people build health eating habits from a young age, so they don’t grow accustomed to skipping meals and binge eating.

    • Higher wages and short work weeks so people have the leisure time to actually take up activities and hobbies. Give people the time to go on hike, bike, an afternoon walk, or play sports with their children.

Make healthier food options more convenient/affordable/available

Restructure cities to be more walkable to encourage people to move/not sit on their ass all day driving

also eliminate charter schools cause I went to a stem high school that had no gym class and that fucced me up

When people learn that gaining weight has serious consequences, and if someone tells you about them they’re not fat phobic.
