Nobody going to a drake album to hear knife talk

Pls make me sad more drake!

  • Sep 6, 2021

i wish i could say i was disappointed but not really,

i just wish he'd embrace these other cultures fully and make full projects dedicated to them rather than just singles here and there

albums like scorp end up sounding like compilations, that's why i like a project like more life because he dubbed and promoted that as a playlist, which it is, despite music fans like ktt members painting it as a jumbled album

He hasn’t really evolved since VIEWS. Everything feels so...corporate and soulless now. Even though CLB has tracks I genuinely like, as an overall album it’s pretty meh and I don’t think it’s going to be appreciated like VIEWS down the line.

like the post above, i'd say he has evolved but he goes about making an album the wrong way

even in clb he has an obvious theme but sonically it's all over the place, i love it but it's hard to listen to front to back in one sitting, it has to be in the background or something

I know Drake is worried if he takes a real hiatus that he’ll lose his spot in the game, but the impact will be much greater if he comes back with something undeniably great versus something his diehard fans will go to war over.

if Drake deleted everything on his socials actually went missing for a year no features no nothing. he will be even bigger when he comes back. not sure why he hasn't done this. in the age of social media you gotta do this every now and again especially if it's clear you've lost some of the passion and hunger. go away find it again. live life for a year or two and come back stronger than ever.

What’s new on CLB that I haven’t heard on DLDT, Scorpion or VIEWS?

That’s the biggest issue with the album. There’s a lot of “been there, done that” and it’s just not cutting it anymore. Even some of his big fans are starting to grow tired of the redundancy.

    idk about not cutting it

you can tell people that resonate with certain sounds from Drizzy only like certain tracks, I personally think he tried to appease too many styles without creating something more complete sonically

but then again, we'll see how it plays out in a few years

  • he doesnt experiment. like at all anymore

how long is he gonna be rappin over these 40 beats with the rnb switch ups at the end

    s*** is so predictable now

and that fake hard / thug persona hes been puttin on for the past few years just aint it. we know who you are bro. you aint no thug

The casuals are always going to eat it up regardless of quality. But they just casuals. They flakey. I’m talking about the fans who have been with him during Take Care, Nothing Was The Same and If You’re Reading This. I know i sounds harsh when critiquing him but that’s because I know he can do better. He has, Ive heard it. Even on songs like N 2 Deep show flashes of the greatness Drake has.

How the f*** did this man make Seeing Green, TWIST & TURN, and Only One Freestyle, then drop this disgustingly bad album

  • Sep 6, 2021
    Carl Johnson

Albums in general just aren’t what they used to be. It’s a new system now and although CLB didn’t live up to my expectations personally for me, it doesn’t matter because I think that’s becoming a near impossible task at this point due to Drakes mass appeal. It was still a great piece of work.

Not to say he hasn’t dropped albums which are near classics or are classics in the past but to drop a cohesive body of work now with all the different forms of drake music that exists… and please everyone making a classic by consensus…. Not happening

It might be that legacy is often determined by someone’s classics in their time but that’s just not drake. He’s held the throne down for way too long, still with music but I don’t rely on his albums to show me that, especially when his only really classic we all can agree on is takecare.

Drakes singles and loosies between albums are arguably his best work and are a reminder of what this man is capable of. Which is why it might hurt some of yall even more when you hear him sound so inspired on something like Vital. But when you hear that, cherish that fr, cause that’s still drake and moments like that and on Days in the east haven’t come about but have meant everything for me in my personal experience. Getting a whole album full of them just ain’t gonna happen cause drake can’t do that

Everyone knows there is a new system of making basically playlists instead of albums. Doesn't mean Drake has to follow suit and we have every right to be disappointed when he does. People still want and care about albums.

It's not impossible for Drake to release shorter, more cohesive and holistic albums in fact it's the complete opposite. He should be the only able to do it well for multiple reasons.

He has a s*** ton of songs. He doesn't need to make the same type of album over and over again. If he releases a full rap album who cares if there is no singing record? He has a lot of past ones for you hear and vice versa.

He constantly releases loosies, EPs, mixtapes, and albums. That's FOUR mediums for him to release music there is no excuse for his albums to need to appeal to everyone. He can release a mostly introspective, lyrical rap album and release an EP before or after it of mostly singing or vice versa.

Or do like rappers used to do and make his albums the more mainstream and reserve the serious s*** for mixtapes. He really has no excuse. He's been making playlists and compilation projects for the past 6 years now he should switch it up.

  • Sep 6, 2021

It sounds like he didn't even give me the pop banger he usually does. That's all I ask of Drake and he couldn't even give me that lol.

I mean the album is good, every song sounds good for the most part.

It just lacks that magic that an album like NWTS had, it's super generic and I'm kind of surprised that Drake gassed this thing up so much, I thought he had a Classic in the bag.

when did he gas this up? I never caught all that

I get what he means when saying that. and s*** we don't know what the album looked like at the time. NWTS just way more concise.

  • Sep 6, 2021

CLB wasnt a bad listen but I agree w whoever said it just didnt have that “magic” NWTS/IYRTITL had

The hunger just isn’t there anymore and its understandable when u have dominated your field for 10+ years theres really not a lot left to prove

I dont think Drake will ever drop an album that isnt at the very least serviceable at this point but I dont ever see him dropping an album that everybody agrees on again just because of how his fanbase has morphed since then

    • His flow on songs aren't as... I don't even know what's the word for it but he doesn't flow as effortlessly and continuously as he used to. Like for example the last verse on 10 Bands or first verse of Furthest Thing. Now He does this stupid thing now where he pauses in his verses multiple times and really kills the momentum and makes it awkward.
    • He doesn't have nearly as good melodies or hooks anymore.
    • Sounds bored on almost every single track nowadays. He used to rap and sing with so much passion, hunger and charisma. He sounds so lifeless now.
    • Uses autotune way too much now. I miss when he'd have beautiful singing songs with well written lyrics. Like compare songs like HOWGH, Feel No Ways, Now & Forever, Marvins Room, Shot For Me, Doing It Wrong, Days In The East, Girls Love Beyonce or My Side to songs like Peak, Finesse, After Dark, Pipe Down, In The Bible, Girls Want Girls or F***ing Fans. Now his singing is autotuned messes and the lyrics have gotten either not nearly as good or pretty corny.
    • Subject matter never changing or evolving is probably the worst offense. I don't need him to completely switch up and like never rap about the things he usually raps about but there needs to be at least SOME songs that break the mold and showcase his creativity. It would be nice but I'm not even saying he has to rap about politics or world issues or anything like that but my god rap about ANYTHING other than your stripper/ig model flings/girlfriends, love for your boys, your mom being sick, the fact that you on top and the cons that come with it, your opps, betrayal, the toll of fame, etc.
    • Beats have been dry to me for the most part. It's super weird because it's not like they are bad but they always feel like they are missing something to make them kick. Like the difference between Tuscan Leather and Champagne Poetry. His albums used to have such beautiful production and now they sound as lifeless as him.
    • His song structuring used to be way more elaborate and unique. Old Drake would have never had a 2 minute intro like Survival or stop at 1 verse on a song like Papi's Home. He never used to miss a songs potential. Like imagine if Come Thru ain't have that outro or 10 Bands stopped at those 2 short verses or if Days In the East and Marvins Room ain't have those last rap/sung verses where he spazzed. Most of his songs now feel like they missing another part to them.
    • He keeps rapping with the same old people like Future & Migos or the new style niggas like Lil Baby, Gunna and Durk and they usually don't bring out the best in him at all. It's getting hella boring I wish he'd switch up and do more songs with rappers that push him like Freddie Gibbs, JID, Tyler, Benny, etc. Wish he'd collab with more female artists too like Kehlani, Jhene, Summer, Doja, Rico Nasty, Meg, etc.
    • He doesn't care about making actual albums anymore. Every project after IYRTITL feel like playlists and gives the excuse that he needs to give all different types of songs on one project when he really doesn't. He's shown multiple times he's willing to release loosies, EPs, and mixtapes. He has multiple mediums to spread out the different types of songs on.

    Bodied it.

    the songs

  • Sep 6, 2021

    He doesn’t try

  • Sep 6, 2021

He’s gotten too comfortable with his current spot. Most artists don’t ride consistent mainstream success this long and he should have been trying new, riskier directions with his music by now.

    I like CLB.

But I agree with every single point of your post.

Im just sayin you could do better .. Drizzy Drake.

But will he deliver some really really great album at this point ? I can see that only if the crown will start to fell off from his head.

Anyways, i dont really think that Drizzy from IYRTITL and NWTS will come back ever again.

Drake 2011-2016 was something different. That was his creative peak.
