2000s had GRODT stop the cap.
Don't get me wrong GRODT was prob the biggest album of that decade. But the
2000's also had The Blueprint
Em Discog
The Game
Carter series
Ye discog
Jeezy
T.i.
Luda
2000's in General was the True Golden age of hip hop in my opinion.
It’s so crazy with rap cause it’s so many ways and styles people express themselves in. Like GRODT is a pop rap classic but in reality it’s just gangsta rap so I can’t show some surburd nigga that this the album of rap. Cause he could think graduation is “The” album his point of view
You can’t minimize the enduring impact and love of the albums I named by saying the year they were the most popular
I don’t wanna minimize it persay
but 2 dismiss WLR & U2M off of some vague measure of “popularity” is kinda dumb
like C3 is a time capsule, AEOM is a time capsule, f***ing Chronic is a time capsule
WLR, an older album like Blonde or even f***ing Trapsoul are time capsules that are closer 2 the sounds of today
that’s also why I opened with “this discussion is pointless”
End of Transmission
Reason I put MBDTF next to illmatic is because it's the next definitive rap Album.
Illmatic had the 90's
2000's had no definitive album
2010's was MBDTF
The blueprint, GRODT, Carter 3, College dropout

Yea rap is way too difficult for just one as a whole.

Im talking bout just one though.
But for rap that's way too hard.
Too many subgenres in rap so we would have to go by subgenre.
Forgetting Nelly :elon:
Outside of the hits I don't really know nelly music like that.
But you prob right

I said popularity is one factor “without considering the other factors”. And some works are gonna be so prolific and enduring that they represent an entire genre regardless of how long it’s been. Like Thriller for example

End of Transmission Man is stuck on
"It has to be current and what's currently shifting the paradigm to count"
Type beat
Kind of Blue
What genre
NOTE: Some of these are not my favorite in the genre but
Pop = Thriller
Rap = Illmatic
R&B = What's Going On
Soul = Innervisions
Rock = Sgt Pepper
Metal = Master of Puppets
No Metallica record should represent Metal

Pop, n music in general is 2 all encompassing 2 be represented by 1 album
it’s all subjective

Jazz
Thanks
But please don't assume I know jazz albums lol
Goldie - Timeless for D&B
Honourable mention: Pendulum - Hold Your Colour
For a album to be THE Album, it happens when it becomes a culture shift in the scene permanently wise. For example: Goldie formed a transition between Jungle and D&B in the 90s that made him a superstar while Pendulum introduces a new audience through their rock/live influences in the 2000s.
