NOTE: Some of these are not my favorite in the genre but
Pop = Thriller
Rap = Illmatic
R&B = What's Going On
Soul = Innervisions
Rock = Sgt Pepper
Metal = Master of Puppets
there's people who've never even heard illmatic front to back saying it's a 10/10 album.
at a certain point people just start following the pack. that's why i think we should just do it by generations of the genre
ex: 70's rock and 90's rock (really more grunge / alt rock) should not be represented by the same artists
Ambient = Music for Airports - Brian Eno

End of Transmission
dark side of the moon
thriller
miseducation of lauryn hill
7220
maggot brain
master of puppets
red headed stranger
kind of blue
discovery
I get that but at the end of the day when you take away the relativity to the album’s 9 tracks, Thriller literally has 7 huge classic smashes. Those albums I named have around the same number of classic smashes, and are the ONLY hiphop albums with that amount of classic smashes. Grad is up there too but noticeably below the others in that regard
Songs above 100 m Spotify Streams:
GRODT: In Da Club, P.I.M.P., 21 Questions, Many Men, If I Can't, Patiently Waiting

AEOM: Ambitionz Az A Ridah, California Love, All Eyez On Me, Only God Can Judge Me, 2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted, How Do You Want It, All About U

Graduation: Stronger, Flashing Lights, Homecoming, Can't Tell Me Nothing, Good Life, I Wonder, Good Morning, Champion
8 out of 13 songs
Technically, Graduation is pretty on par as far as # of hits. In 2022, it's actually the most popular of these particular albums.
Regardless, these are all hall of fame albums, and I think it just comes down to personal preference/generation. Pac and 50 dropped the definitive gangsta rap albums and Ye dropped the definitive electro-pop rap album

I’d replace sgt peppers with abbey road or dark side of the moon
