not to be like that but if you weren’t up on the SoundCloud scene from 2014-16 and werent a rowdy teen at the time you prob wouldn’t get what made him blow
The image of x that has lasted far after his passing it’s so different from the one that he embodied the majority of his career
yeah I think that's it. it's kinda like younger people who hate drake and u can't really describe to them what it was like hearing someone rap really relatably about certain relatable s*** during a specific time in ur life. people probably just become biggest fans of who was hot during their formative years (HS / college)

yeah I was a freshman in high school when I first heard about him lol
very Pac like
I turn 20 in a couple months and I honestly believe for a couple years he was my generations version of the odd future movementr
Mysterious lmage and a sort of rawness that was unheard of at the time definitely drew me back in 2015 lol
songs like freddy vs jason, l spoke to the devil in miami, and may more just showcased a bleeding edge in a fairly sanitzed era of music
unfortunately l didn’t remain a fan for his studio albums but l fully believe he was the one at that moment
soundcloud era X was some different fasho
soundcloud era X was some different fasho
thread has me super nostalgic listening to the songs for the first time like 4-5 years
sorry ab spamming op l just never talk ab x on here and honestly forgot how Important he was for some of my teenage years

im also turning 20 in a few months and i agree. I dont think i can think of a artist in recent memory that grew the cult like fanbase like X. Like compare juice wrld and X. Like these kids really worshiped X
He openly talked about depression and suicidal thoughts in a raw and unfiltered way.
His life was short, tragic, and violent and it was recorded for everyone to see.
He had a very shocking physical appearance. He was good looking but he also had face tattoos and multi colored hair. That contrast immediately catches someone’s attention.
He had s***appeal and charisma which gained him a female audience really quickly.
He had no filter and would basically say whatever came to his mind.
His music was usually totally unmastered and very distorted which was as the time totally unusual for rap music and totally foreign to most people. His early stuff especially is pretty hard on the ears unless you’re used to listening to music of that nature.
I really do miss him. That guy was truly one of a kind. When he died I felt like a piece of my identity died with him.
Absolutely. I’ve never seen an artist of this generation especially a rapper with a fanbase that dedicated. I mean his fans would have literally died for him.
I would compare his fanbase more to Justin Bieber fans in the 2000s or One Direction fans in the early 2010s. Just totally in love with someone they have never even met because they just felt such an indescribable connection to them.
He had that bad boy thing going on, he was VERY controversial and he appealed to those emo/goth/my chemical romance listening ass niggas. Lotta his fans weren’t even really hip hop fans
random thought, but LA is so unfair cuz there are kids like OF in every city, but only LA has places like Melrose and Sunset. and all the labels are right there. also they were all from a nice neighborhood, Ladera Heights aka the Black Beverly Hills
not saying they aren't talented, but being from nyc or especially LA these days is an unfair leg up
come up also felt natural af
Bc it was natural bro I remember when he blew up while I was in High School. I just saw his mugshot everywhere I was like who the f*** is this weirdo. His face became like a f***ing meme and then when people heard his music it just perfectly tied into his image.

agree with all that, except he was big in life and people at the time didn't know his life would be short
i remember first seeing him thinking he looked like Kid Buu lol that one pic he took on stage. his appearance was very striking
If you don’t get why he’s as big as he is, you’re slow as f*** and should just enjoy music on a casual level
