I’m still waiting for yall to name examples of rappers who have paid for critical acclaim

Chance pays to have negative reviews taken down

If they’re not overtly paying off the critics they’re being pushed as “woke” “paradigm shifting” or incredibly “important”. This critique is usually more about the artist and their “brand” then their music. Also, this isn’t anything new. There’s always been this transactual relationship between labels/musicians and critics. Of course, some artists cut through without the quid pro quo but its unusual.

    Tbh, I believe this

75% of the time you can tell what the reviews are gonna look like before the album even comes out. That’s a problem

F*** all critics of any artistic medium fr unless they’re an artist themselves

For some reason journalists just decide to give their opinions on projects and then act like it’s an inarguable position

industrializing the concept of artistic critique means that critics are now less interested in the actual criticism of art and more the survival and growth of their critic business, which means critical thought can be tainted in the name of business growth

    this is a bad thing

Really what is the point of music critics once blogs were invented? Now everyone's a critic

this isn’t really the right way to go

everyone should be able to critique and speak on any artistic expression they see, it’s up to the artist and the fellow viewer to decide for themselves if the critique is worthwhile with their own criteria

Who in their 20s-30s (people who read music reviews) even cares about that?

For example, this Meg album got a 90+ score on metacritic. how is this possible???

yet you got projects like FHD 2014 and Rodeo having average reviews on metacritic even though they’re loved by the public

This happens a lot on Metacritic when albums first drop

Theres a lot of hype (recency bias) but after some time the scores will average out and come back to earth

Plus, all her superfans on there are rating the album now, not in the next few weeks/month etc

Tpab got a 96 Kendrick ain’t pay no critics

If those white critics gave an album like tpab anything less than a 90% they would have been deemed rAcIsT

I agree with your second point, but the existence of a "critic" as a designated position in journalism is ridiculous IMO, nobody's opinion is any more or less valid than another's just because they're a "critic"
