Black is king can be seen as exploitative

That's not what cultural appropriation is about tho. Black Americans have no systematic advantages over African immagrants. This is basically the reverse reverse racism argument that loses the meaning of the concept which is the structural power dynamics. If beyonce made a movie like this while african immigrant creators were being marginalized it would be a different story but as far as Hollywood goes they don't care at all if the African American person their casting is actually born American.

Well if that’s the case then why did white America from the jump do everything in its power to segregate and ostracize Africans as inferior vs calling them and treating them as “Americans”? African American is where you draw the line? Many Europeans that came to American at least had a CHOICE which is why to me it would be redundant to call someone a “European American” as they decided to make this their home. Whether or not African American culture directly correlated to African culture at this point in time is absolutely irrelevant. It’s about linage.

This is not true, culture appropriation has no inherent ties to systematic power dynamics and has to do with adopting elements of cultural, religious and spiritual significance and using it out of those contexts. It's just more frowned upon when dominant groups do it. But it can very well be done by anyone.

yeah some africans have a superiority complex but this has nothing to do with african americans themselves and more to do with strict immigrant parents similarly to other immigrant parents.

people on the continent actually love black american hip hop culture and people.

but since african americans actually have no idea about the continent they make uneducated comments

    Facts

If anyone is actually looked down upon by the diaspora it’s Africans

I never saw any Africans or black Americans have beef with each other.

I also never really experienced any beef with black Americans (but might have to do with me not really looking Nigerian, due to my moms fam only my name is Nigerian)

But I never really saw this internet beef irl outside of niggas taking random jabs at Africans and Africa as a whole having a negative connation to it

Well we're just going to have to disagree there cause I don't see how black people can exploit a culture they have no power over.

But please tell me how this is appropriation when beyonce is an actual descendant of african people? If a white person is born in America but their family is Irish they'll claim Irish culture because that's where they descend from. I feel like there's internalized racism towards African Americans on your part

U dont think black people can appropriate native american or chinese culture ?

"Internalized racism" lol wild assumption to make

And it can be considered appropriation because Africa isnt some monolith with one single culture and religion. Beyonce literally took elements from multiple African cultures and homogenized them to get what she got.

Beyonce more likely descends from a country from west africa, that doesnt mean she can use elements from all African countries like that.

I mean imagine depicting jesus as the son of God in a film about islam despite jesus being in the quran, culture, religion clashes with each other

Black people using those different cultures and black people using African culture is not similar at all. Like I said when your debating racial topics you need CONTEXT.

All of what your talking about comes from the fact that beyonce as an African American was forcefuly removed from her original heritage. There is no "explotion" going on here. She didn't claim it as her original culture or step over African black creators. This is an appeal to all darker skinned people who are victimised for their skin color worldwide

It was reply to u saying black people cant appropriate something they have no power over lol

The exploitative part comes when u realize she mixing mutiple African culture that she has no ancestral ties with and selling it under a white corporation, while benefiting off of it

I like the film and I think the postive outweigh the negatives but let's not act like the negatives arent there

I think this is the gist of it. African-Americans and European-Americans can be closer to each other in terms of mentality that African-Americans and Africans.

I think it has to be looked at on a case-to-case basis. In some discussions, it makes sense to group certain people together, in other discussions, it doesn't. But I doubt that this is a huge issue tbh

I think you're being overly negative about the situation just so you can one up black people on some "but it's not your culture tho!"

Also what about when foreign black people appropriate American black culture? Like UK rap for example. You won't see any Americans saying their exploiting the culture, because their still marginalized black people regardless. They might say it's trash, but not exploitative
