If I loved it as a piece of art + it means something to me on a personal level then its probably a classic
To me it's one of two things
Either the album is impactful and stayed in the conversation for years and significant for music at the time
Or it's a masterpiece quality album that's a classic just for being outstandingly good

Nah Scorpion sucks

it stands out from other albums. it was a moment, or represents an era. its timeless, there are songs you can bump at any time. sentimental value.
The fact this only got one page just goes to show people don’t really have any basis for their rationale I always appreciate when people explain why they feel something is/isn’t a classic
IMO
It needs to meet all 3 of these criteria or at least rank very highly in at least 2 of them
Quality
Impact or influence
Longevity
If it's still great and replayable after 5-10 years and does a great job encapsulating or further pushing a particular sound that was popular during its time of release it is a classic to me.
Impact can also be relevant to the criteria, however an album like Maxwell's Embrya was shat on upon its release, often being viewed as massive stepback in comparison to Urban Hang Suite. So wouldn't necessarily say that was the most positively impactful album. However it stood the test of time and is most definitely a classic album.
Well a true classic isn’t defined off “your opinion/criteria”
Classics are something that made an impact in the time it was released and stood the test of time.
It must have the public perception of something that is either truly exemplary in its field or something groundbreaking in its field
Albums like graduation or GRODT are exemplary in that they delivered massive hits to a pop audience while albums like MBDTF or GKMC are exemplary because they showed the heights hiphop could go to (while delivering hits)
808s or Barter 6 is an example of being groundbreaking
Anything I like is a classic
To me it's one of two things
Either the album is impactful and stayed in the conversation for years and significant for music at the time
Or it's a masterpiece quality album that's a classic just for being outstandingly good
Yeah I feel this way
Time is a big factor but any album/song undeniably great and impactful is a classic
Examples of undeniable classics:
GKMC
Aquemini
Doggystyle
Graduation
DS2
