Bruh if I dont like 2 songs on thriller can i go around saying its not a classic?
If you have sales as criteria for a classic you lost in the sauce forreal.
It cant be a classic off sales alone but sales can measure impact which definitely can help an argument for an album being a classic
If an album has sold 30 million copies that is a pretty reasonable thing to bring up
Examples of undeniable classics:
GKMC
Aquemini
Doggystyle
Graduation
DS2
DS2 is not on the same tier of albums bro
I’m not even saying its not a classic but mentioning DS2 as one of the main examples of a classic looks silly

Just opening the floodgates for bullshit like Scorpion and CLB.

I didnt say it was, what Its just an example of an undeniable classic like the rest of those

Like I said sales alone isn’t an argument
Person 1: I think Scorpion is a classic because it sold insert whatever it sold
Person 2: Yes it sold that much but I disagree because it’s not a quality project and didn’t have much influence on the sound of music
Bam u guys both made arguments
Did Operation Doomsday have high sales/chart success?
its not a classic lol
I didnt say it was, what Its just an example of an undeniable classic like the rest of those
It’s not though, there are definitely people who can deny its a classic that one feels a lot more subjective than Aquemini or Doggystyle
Like I feel like theres a huge disconnect in the way people whose elders don’t listen to rap vs the way peoples who do talk about rap

Always been a thing thats part of impact. If people aint hear it how is it a classic?

When DS2 came out even oldheads that hated hi-hat rattle trap with a passion were fw it. That album and the first Culture are 100% in that conversation
Who’s denying DS2 is a classic
Yes
GKMC has skips
Only two classics with no skips for me are grodt and mbdtf

The latter of this is nonsense too that is not the demographic of people who say DS2 is a classic

Who’s denying DS2 is a classic
Bruh I’m not saying it’s not a classic I’m saying its not in the same conversation as Aquemini or Doggystyle its literally not.
If someone says Aquemini isn’t a classic its going to get a much worse reaction than someone saying DS2 is a classic
Plus what old heads do u know? How many old genuine hip hop heads do you have in your life and how do you know them?
are we discussing personal classics? or mostly-agreed-upon objective classics? two very different things

It’s not non sense there’s a definite difference in the way that someone who was born into the culture thinks and talks about it than someone who adopted it

What does that have to do with who thinks DS2 is a classic stop moving topics

Bro there’s hella people in this generation that would argue DS2 being a classic before Aquemini but let’s keep it on topic:
The only conversation here is that DS2 is an undeniable classic like the rest of the albums I named. As in it’s very unlikely someone will argue those albums are not classics and if they do they’re in a very small majority
Also can an album have one or two fillers(skips) and still be a classic?
Yes, an album can have one or two fillers and still be a classic.
The misconception about a classic album is that every single song has to be a perfect 10/10 song. That's not true.
For example, "All Eyez On Me" and "Life After Death" have a few fillers on them, and their both all time classic albums.

Lotta people ain't hear Pieces of a Man the first 5 years it was out. Infact, it didn't start to get attention until it was reissued 23 years later 1993, and even then it was still relatively slept on.
Album stood the test of time regardless of its sales/impact though and many would consider it a classic.
