Older rnb more simpy? Wtf. That word wasn’t really a big thing til Drake crying cuz he ran thru his girl phone songs started.

I'm talking about the subject matter where singers would openly show romance and love for each other. There was more intimate love songs or slow jams in the past compared to today.

I love the "dark" wave of R&B tbh

the problem w dark r&b is it just got stripped back to the most formulaic s*** w artists not even having great voices

This one of the only people who truly did it well

    just about

when it’s done right, it’s fantastic. unfortunately that era produced way too many copycats and uninspired music

Wait. Jeremih has a level? Damn...mainstream R&B fell off that much today?

Good thing there's a lot of amazing artists in the Indie scene.

When "the vibe" and aesthetics became more important than the actual vocal talent is when s*** started going south.

Damn shame forreal, R&B production has been great but all these new singers be doing that breathy sing-talkin bullshit about getting cheated on is just too much.

Like damn, at least the people singing about getting cheated on and done dirty back in the day you can actually hear that pain and emotion in their vocals. These days they be sounding so whatever about it. As if they do not care. And if they do not care, why should I care to listen?

    Today's RnB is s***

    CLB Drunk Driver

    Who’s poppin right now
Like who would be the Travis Scott or Uzi of R&B currently

I'd say Brent Faiyaz & Giveon as far as popularity goes. They've been on a nice, consistent run.

Oh yeah I get you. Maybe i chose my words wrong. I’m talking about the angsty, depressed simp vibes we got today. Back then it was just emotional but not “off” if you get me.
