Rap been toxic since the 90s. Hasn't really gotten worse it's just that things that were never highlighted when rap was still young is getting highlighted now that it's the biggest genre in the world
Well we have become lipstick alley of gangster rap... :/
“Omg bruh cmon go avenge Von!!11” like it’s a revenge arc on an anime.
Thanks for speaking up. I think we need to continue to dispel this behavior for what it is, because I’m tired of seeing young ones die and then we say “uhhhhh why are we glorifying their music again?”
100% true.
Think this may be the most honest and truthful post in this thread.
Rap has always been toxic. From Nas refusing to perform in summer jam because hot97 didn't let him hang a Jay Z dummy to Gucci killing Jeezys friend and wearing it as a badge of honor. Pick up another genre, OP.
i mean it depends on who youre talking to
most grown men arent toxic like that, its usually the ignorant teenagers but that s*** is much deeper than rap urgh
i also think the internet plays a big part in the way you perceive the toxicness

You do realize I'm not dissing rap? Rock and Roll was extremely toxic too lol
I probably see it differently cause I was around before drill went mainstream s*** was mostly in city s*** and mfs wasn’t being lame and wishing death on niggas they didn’t know. After AK is when I noticed a shift.
Ak was really the one that brought it to the general population, think that's when the attitude shifted.
A&Rs and managers not really caring about the wellbeing of their artists no more is another main reason.
D'angelo's manager drove him from Virginia to Cali for rehab by van just to avoid people seeing him in the airport due to his f***ed up physical state.
Niggas aint caring about their artists like that these days.

Iirc someone from Vons crew/management told him Quando was in the parking lot that night
I don’t know how those niggas sleep at night

That reminds me of Famous Dex's struggles with d**** as well.
People were mocking the way he looks and s*** for memes, yet he's been struggling for a minute.
Truly awful
Yeah, seems like the fans like controversy.
I feel you.
Seems like Ak just gave them a spotlight but ultimately fans ate it up.
Reminds of this post
Yeah it’s crazy cause AK probably didn’t even mean for it to get like this. I just hate how he let it go on for so long without really speaking up after seeing the power he had.
I swear I gotta share a post like that every time I see it. Niggas really Durk and Duck nem were they real life opps lmao.
100% true.

Thanks buddy. Yeah I feel passionate about this topic. It’s probably why I stay away from much of the popular artists right now

I thought he (quando) had a show.
If you're on that team, and you know you have a livewire and you know one of your biggest rivals off some street s*** is there, you don't bring Von tf out there.
And I don't know either.
Delete this, very problematic thread
As always, it’s not rap that’s toxic, it’s reflecting a toxic country and culture and set of circumstances dipshit
this is def true but i’m not mad at OP.
chicago drill revealed a lifestyle in chicago that really had taken a wilder turn. they locked so many black men up on trumped up d*** and RICO charges while gentrification ravaged neighborhoods and the public school system literally fell apart. this led to increasing violence and also just general disrespect.
and the truth is versions of this was happening in other midwest cities too.
now ppl from those environments are making HITS.
but yeah some of it is disturbing and difficult to listen to. some would say that’s hip hop af tho.
has less to do with toxicity in rap changing and more about who consumes rap
like all forms of entertainment, who the artist is speaking to, who their audience is, is a crucial part of it all.
rappers aren’t trying to impress they og’s, they block, none of that s***. niggas tryna impress suburbanites.
that’s why it’s weird right now, i think it’s a more complex question than “how did it get toxic” bc there’s always been toxic elements.
it’s also kinda of like a chicken and the egg situation. did suburbanites make the culture more toxic, or was the toxic culture allowed for suburbanites to cheer the bullshit on?
idk mane i just want my brothers stop pointing guns towards each other and start pointing guns to this government
This makes me think, with how popular drill is again, is Durk now bigger than Chance? 🤔

If Dex don't get locked up, he's dead. End of story.

popularity in hip hop is pointless rn bruh.
Kendrick and Cole are living proof that s*** is for the birds. Why you think they don't talk no more lol.

Rude as f***. Still, you don’t think that the many white kids who are involved in this like an anime don’t play a part in creating longevity in this bad culture? That the corporations profiteering off of the issues is NOT a fixable problem? Gtfo, not productive at all
Its not more or less toxic but the music these people are making is easily available.
There has always been gangster rappers but they were getting local radio play at best. Now, i can go on yt, twitter, facebook and listen to a person 300 or 400 miles away rap about killing rivals

Interesting take and this is so true.
The audience has DEFINITELY shifted over the years and it's becoming more and more clear
There just needs to be more positivity IMO.
If Dex don't get locked up, he's dead. End of story.
What makes you say this? Just curious
