Would never personally use that site but it is pretty funny
incredible database to use to find music, idk another site where you can instantly get a recommendation list of stuff like
"best salsa albums as rated by users in latin america"
"best live rock albums with both male and female vocalists"
"best non-electronic singles/albums/EPs from Warp Records"
"best post-bop jazz albums from 1975-1985"
etc etc
yeah ofc the list it gives you isnt gonna be the same ranking that agrees with your opinion but thats not the point. you can just use it to find tons of great recs and just keep scrolling the lists until you find something interesting
It's nothing new like lots of ppl itt are saying but it doesn't make it less pathetic.
I think it used to be more of a way to gauge competition between the artists at the top but I'm not sure we live in that environment anymore.
I'm not old enough to remember for ex. GRODT v Grad but I highly doubt the parasocial attachment that I see in nicki/Drake/etc fans was as much a thing back then
More alienated ppl nowadays that want to feel success through celebrities. S***s weird.
Their Top 10 highest rated albums have 3 Radiohead albums, 2 Kendrick albums and 2 Pink Floyd albums
Pretty good music !

I just don't see myself enjoying what their average user would recommend

youre slow as hell man im telling you the point of the site isn't to get the recommendation from the "average user", you can pick who to get recommendations from

Yeah I just don't see myself ever using it but thanks
I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say you’ve never listened to Jay Z and his braggadocio raps
Again, these takes will do much better on X where people won’t call you out for not knowing what you’re talking about lol
Canada man bad isn’t always an easy way to get likes my boy
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say you imagined where I said Drake was the first or only one to do this (I think I even acknowledge Pac and 50 did variations of the sales over everything first in my first post in here): lol Hov was on another level in a different lane with the d*** and mafioso s*** intertwined. drake solely kept it to again the record sales and success up until around 2017 or so with the increase in mob talk
how am I going “Canada man bad” when I said it’s not necessarily a bad thing? It’s actually kind of dope. Lmaoo y’all got dude in yalls throats crazy. It seems that is an easy way to get likes
When you realize that most people that use that site are white it becomes alot less objective
doesn’t matter lmao, if we’re going to use numbers ™️ to bolster up our pet albums and artists, then critic scores should lowkey count
you can’t have it one way and then not the other, not saying you did but it’s an interesting double standard i see on here
Radiohead has like 5 albums in the Top 25 of all time on RYM
Not controversial at all
Not controversial at all
It's not controversial it's just the most basic take lmfao
Like listen to some other bands for once

yeah he was saying that RYM is a better metric and I don't really see that as much better, since it caters heavily to one type of listener most times
Nah it is but definitely a n00b top 10
I don't understand why Wish You Were Here would be there
DSOTM I can understand but some variety would be cool
in recent years? maybe akademiks?
blogs always reported on sales and i always checked on hitsdailydouble but i think only super music nerds that want to be in the industry cared about that stuff
but maybe akademiks being a mainstream platform that’s for casual passive fans, him posting numbers made them start to become aware. then a lot of rappers began to talk about it

Great Depression era
yeah he was saying that RYM is a better metric and I don't really see that as much better, since it caters heavily to one type of listener most times
yeah that site is hipster central lmao, if it isn’t indie rock or some dad rock band it isn’t gonna be held very highly
any hip-hop that isn’t experimental/abstract (or the opposite of a mainstream project) doesn’t get the nod either, very corny place
good database for music discovery though
I don't understand why Wish You Were Here would be there

Wish you were here is the best concept album ever actually
in the 2000s, 50 cent reading niggas numbers on the radio, kanye vs 50 and wayne doing a million in a week all made people more aware of sales too
