I would say Frank Ocean and Childish Gambino have one in their bag for sure.

I think the thing about MBDTF is that the context of the album is equally as important as the music itself. The aesthetics and timeline leading up to it as well as the whole saga with Kanye down to the recording process and his media perception as basically just as if not more important to the album than the music by itself. Lots of artists can drop insane top tier and grandiose albums, but a "MBDTF" is more than that, it's a top tier grandiose album + overflowing public hype/context & reception

    TPAB is Kendrick's MBDTF

I think NWTS is the closest Drake can come to making a MBDTF tier album

Tyler could have one in his bag if he actually went through some s***. Right now his content is just "I'm lonely, I'm bi, I'm successful but this person still don't want me". All he needs is better content, to work with more people and I think he could do it tbh

    I like this post

    Pitchfork isn’t doing s***.

Probably <10% of KTT2 actually read that review in 2010 – 50% of the people here probably weren't even listening to hip-hop in 2010 – but at the time Pitchfork carried a lot of weight with blog boys and internet nerds on forums. Just look at the dude that does the Dissect podcast. You think that dude wasn't reading pitchfork and wasn't influenced by them? He then creates a huge hit podcast talking about how amazing the album is and then that influences a bunch of people.

MBDTF is a great album but that Pitchfork 10/10 has a lot of influence over the way y'all think about it today.

One day we gonna have that conversation

Nobody care what Pitchfork has to say.

Albums that fall off after track 9? most Kanye music haven't aged well for me, he just doesn’t have that album I feel the need to ever go back to. He is a great artist though and a cultural icon, but the reason he has so many different eras is the different ghostwriters he’s had per era if we being 100% real

Oh brother, This guy stinks !

Maybe for younger generations bro but quite frankly, this thread wasn't made from the perspective of a pitchfork follower.

Personally, MBDTF wasn't a good album to me until it clicked in 2011-2012. That was 2 whole years man. GOOD Fridays were my s***, especially So Appalled, Chain Heavy & Lookin 4 Trouble.

When MBDTF clicked, I was downtown listening to it and the vibe of the fall/winter and hearing the closing of AOTL, I couldn't get enough of it. That was it. The album opened up and I saw how brilliant that album truly is.

Being a gear head and engineer at that time, it was dope how rugged the album was crafted and mixed. This was also the time when Echos of Silence was released. Those two albums worked hand in hand. lol
