Basketball. Between the unique genetic makeup required, the high skill ceiling and the lack of slots available per roster on NBA teams, it's a long shot.
This is it.

I'd say the genetic aspect makes it easier to know wether or not you can make it in NBA. If you do happen to have the genetics, you're competing amongst a small crop of individuals. While a sport like the NFL, NHL, MLB, or Soccer, you are competing with a MUCH larger pool of individuals. You gotta stand out amongst way more people
It’s basketball. Easiest floor of entry to the sport (all you need is a ball and a hoop) but the threshold of entry to the NBA is astronomical it’s almost impossible sometimes to think that even the worst NBA players would absolutely decimate virtually anyone else. Not to mention the sport with the least amount of roster spots (aside from hockey maybe?)
Hockey has 4 lines and a pair of goalies. Basketball definitely has less.

Not the easiest floor of entry. You ned the genetic makeup to get in the NBA. No muggsy bogues is making the league in 2023. If you're below 5'10" then you already know it's pretty much impossible for you to make the league. If you happen to be blessed with the genetics then you're competing with a small minority of individuals who are also blessed genetically. Making the NBA is largely a genetic lottery. Other sports are much more difficult to make it because the pool of talent is so much larger
I don’t think most Americans can name a single American soccer player or team tbh
NBA eliminates a majority of the planets population off the height required to make it alone

“Floor of entry to the sport” meaning anyone can play it = more inherent competition to the league

Yes, but that wouldn't be the NBA. 99% of participants are already disqualified because of genetics. The pool of talent that actually can compete to make it in the NBA is incredibly small. A sport like the NFL is tougher because the pool of talent is so much larger
Nba
well , American football is the most difficult sport to turn professional simply because there are only 2 routes to take , the NFL , or the Canadian league . It’s quite interesting because America is starved for football and people have been trying for decades to offer a decent alternative , and the fact that the NFL was compelled to buyout the one group of people and investors who succeeded in going toe to toe with them proves it’s entirely possible to have something similar happen again , but it kind of feels like the only people who have tried in the post-NFC/AFC era have either been complete d***heads with little to no business sense like Donald trump , or guys like Charlie Ebersol , who considering who his father is probably could have become a billionaire if he weren’t so over ambitious or would have prioritized better .
Anyways , all the other major sports like baseball , basketball , hockey , soccer , cricket , rugby , golf , etc. have multiple leagues in several countries to try and ply your trade
This is a good debate
But maybe thats because my fat ass couldnt even sprint for longer than 20 seconds so anything related to sports seems hard to me
Golf probably
Baseball. Gotta be the hardest. Hitting a ball flying at 100 mph with a heavy wooden bat is nearly impossible. Plus MLB is the only league ik of where top prospects don't start in major league games. They almost always go thru the farm system and sometimes never get called up.
As opposed to basketball, theres plenty of 6'4+ people out there that can hit a layup.
Not that the nba is easy. Cos its not. But the ability to be elite at it without being in the nba is clearly obvious. Thats why other countries best the usa in international basketball nowadays.

Yeah like im 6'1 and so around most people ik im tall but then i see a 6'3 dude on an nba court they look like little people. Nba players are big people.
If you're under 6'4 you gotta be hella skilled.
I think it depends on how you look at it. I think the answer is either basketball or soccer.
Basketball because you have to meet a height AND athleticism threshold. And there’s only like 2-3 leagues where you can make good money. (NBA, Euroleague, China).
Soccer because it’s the most played sport, you can be any height and play, but they also have the most leagues where you can play and earn
i don’t understand how this made sense enough to u for u to post it when the question was which sport is the hardest to become a professional in , not the easiest
Ig if u wanted to rank them by difficulty then basketball would be near the top because of the outsized importance genetic lottery aspect , and the ubiquity and global popularity of soccer make it relatively more difficult compared to the other sports
in retrospect I see what you’re saying now , bc it’s prolly between those 2 and American football frfr

It seems that you were the one who was confused not me
I always thought it Fùtbol instead of football
this is like hearing someone call Wesley snipes black and saying you always thought he was a negro . different languages same word bruh

This don't hit the way you think
football american and pro motorsports
basketball is such a normie answer and genetics play a major role in most usa mainstream sports if you want to be professional aka the main league in each respective niche
if you dont have genetics to go along with talent then youre ending up in foriegn basketball or arena fottball etc. or worst - forever the bench

That’s kinda contradicting bro
Because it takes physical genetics along with the skills it literally makes it way more difficult than many other sports lol
