they have their flaws, but in my division(long-term acute care) basically every patient would be in a graveyard if they weren’t in the hospital
i know there’s an argument that their family could take care of them instead, but most of our patients are just going straight to a retirement home the second they get out of the hospital, so their fam already wants their well-being to be someone else’s problem
plus if they’re treating their family the same way they’re treating their PCTS/nurses, they might take them to the graveyards themselves that might be more of a regional thing though, i’m just speaking from experience
Im not sure the original basis of it but ive heard that too
I think it moreso has to do with taking back power of our health and not relying on the government for it
We can self teach surgeons and doctors and remove the government’s control on our health
I want to believe you're trolling
Also privatized hospitals are absolutely a big thing already. Going this route for all public services like police/security and 911 emergencies is going to seriously f*** us over when we become even poorer than we are now. Which is why I have to believe anyone seriously promoting this "solution" is grossly ignorant and short-sighted, or perhaps not even a real person and just a state-controlled bot.

I don’t want to go this route for public services I’m just throwing the idea out there that instead of letting the government regulate our well being we should take the power back and place it into the hands of the people
Also I am not a state controlled bot nor am I trolling
How am I trolling tho I’ve presented a decent amount of information to go off of and i even said in the op that there was discussion happening on social media
I understand where you’re coming from but I don’t think you read any of the posts pages 1-4/5 or else you wouldn’t be so rude
Im sorry if you are in a poor country and took offense to my post but that was neither my intentions nor does that have anything to do with the proposition outlined in the title and the posts following
Public Hospitals are the places that accept s*** like Medicare.
The hell did they do to you?
They also tend to serve as teaching hospitals for residents.
Not to mention Hospitals are usually huge areas where you can see and drop off a multitude of patients.
Also freelance surgeons? What?
Do you think surgeries are done in thin air?
Surgeries are done usually in the OR room of a Hospital, usually with a team of techs and nurses on standby helping alongside the surgical attending.
What the f*** is a freelance surgeon. Is this the plot of Mad Max?
Also what the f*** is a government mandated surgeon? Every physician in any country is a government mandated physician if they have a license to practice medicine.
The contrary to a government mandated physician is someone illegally performing procedures on people

And that’s the problem lol
I’d be okay with leaving a few hospitals in major cities like LA, NY etc but for the most part I don’t see why health care can’t be handed over to the people rather than people who are rich enough to work in it and the federal government
(500K+ to become a medical doctor in a hospital. which is objectively classist and limits who can pursue that career)
just another 'discussion' that wont see any real-life development. cool, thanks for sharing

We have those standards in every country because its very easy for someone to go off rails and f***ing kill you.
Bro it does not cost 500k to become a medical doctor at a Hospital.
The system is classiest for a myriad of reasons but lmaoooo
If you have 500k debt after medical school. You have disastrously ruined your life

I’ve read it costs much more to be a doctor but the government subsidizes med school for necessity
Also rural areas need hospitals too and if you knew anything about the lack of access to Healthcare in rural areas thst is a current hot topic issue in America, you would realize that

It costs nothing to study Medicine in Sweden
Maybe nothing to the student
Yeah I mean isn’t that the financial issue? Debt? Classism? Access to POC doctors from LE backgrounds?
Sweden’s medical school is joint 5th with Johns Hopkins University

Ok to be fair I'm pretty sure that John Hopkins isn't even the highest ranked medical school in the USA.

I would assume med school debt probably is the least worrisome of any student debt considering the earning power you have after

3 American schools are top 5 & JH is 1 of them

I’m talking about the debt incurred to afford tuition & living arrangements but you’re right (I’d assume)

Yeah, tbh its not that bad.
These people are complaining about the wrong thing and I say this as someone who thinks tuition should be free for medical school as well.
Medical School is classist because its barrier to entry is spending thousands of dollars to apply to colleges, 300 dollars to do your MCAT, PAYING TO TRAVEL TO SCHOOLS FOR INTERVIEWS (God thank you we had virtual interviews), and having to accumulate experiences during college or after in order to apply to medical school.
And yes you can get some of this waived with FAP. You prob won't but you can
Also nepotism on those medical school secondaries

I’m genuinely not complaining I’m just saying a model where tuition is free isn’t hypothetical: it exists & the schools are fantastic
I know there are complex chains involved & I’m not trying to be reductionist
Hahahahaha How The F*** Is Abolishing Hospitals Real Hahahaha Nigga Just Don't Call The Ambulance Like Nigga Sign Your Release Form

Ya we won’t agree lol
Agree to disagree I guess ! Thanks for ur opinion 🙂
People just don’t understand the importance of what needs to be done in the hospital. It’s really frustrating, cause I’ll have patients who are actually really sick, but threaten to / actually do leave AMA (against medical advice). There’s a reason we watch people closely in the hospital

Nah I agree, tuition should be free but the classism in medical school is the barrier of entry.
The loans are just w.e, you don't worry about those until you get out.
If you rack up some inordinate amount of loans tho thats on you.
