Anyway let's not try to appropriate the point I was trying to make.

The new wave is different than the straight rapping s*** and that's why it creates such a gap between the generations.

Tbh I think that the new "leaders of the newschool" aren't here yet. Or they might be here and we don't know it. They'll get established in the next couple years.

At one point it was supposed to be Kodak, Uzi, Juice and Tentacion maybe, but they died/fell off/ended up in jail. Kodak and Uzi might still bounce back tho.

    We're waiting.

Most of the rappers who can rap well, who came in the last 10 years, were still influenced by older rappers who could rap well.

Jay, Wayne, Kanye, Andre 3000, Em, Nas, Pac, etc. were still heavy influences to a lot of the most lyrical rappers of the 2010s

Among the females who can rap well that surfaced in the last 10 years, rappers like Foxy Brown, Lil Kim, Missy Elliot, Eve, etc. are usually referenced as influences.

The young artists who are blowing up now and will find stardom over the next decade will most likely be influenced by Future, Thug, Keef, Drake, Kendrick, Cole, OF, ASAP Mob, etc. for the Males, and Nicki, Cardi, Megan, City Girls, etc. for the Women

Yeah, Roddy Ricch already said that he grew up on Future and Thugger which caught me off guard but I guess I gotta get used to it.

Damn, last week Scarface said that in 05 or 06 he felt like the Internet started changing rap music (for the worse)..

Yeah I expect more of that going forward.

The good thing about that is it helps lyrical rappers stand out more as long as they can make good songs and albums

Drake, Cole, Kendrick, Sean, Rocky, etc. stood out among their peers but none of them are truly elite to the standpoint of the legends before them regarding skill (w the exception of Kendrick at his best).

But the bad thing is that a rapper who does rap traditionally might be looked at as a lyricist but not truly being highly skilled at it due to everyone doing the singing, adlibs, etc. thats the wave now.

Every artist in that generation and every generation since utilized the internet and wouldn’t be near as big without it

In terms of influences for the majority of the genre, most likely, at least the way things are going.

There will always be exceptional talent, and I do think the deterioration of the talent (relative to traditional rapping/lyricism) will help them stand out more, but it will also help a just good rapper appear far better than they are as well.

Im talking more so growing up with it. Internet didn’t really consume us until like 2008-2012. These new rappers were babies during those times. They’ll never know what it was like living in a world that wasn’t so connected.

I think that this is why those artist have more range in their music/art than these young guys.

Better for rap music tho. Bc you need a lot of real life experiences to tell great stories. Nobody wanna hear an album about sliding in hoes' DM's or posting on KTT.

moreso than a lot of other genres, you have to be smart to make hip hop with any substance. i can't help but look at this new generation of rappers and see a bunch of morons who think they're hard but can't put an ounce of thought into a verse. maybe I'm just getting old
