If you can profit off of art then people can profit off their opinion of art lol.

We're paying for something they are deliberately sharing & thinking its a worthwhile piece to sell.

As a buyer & a consumer, we have the right to say if we think what you're trying to sell is worth it or not.

Consumer's only power is literally their opinion, & critics crtiques are more for the people than anything, from their perspective.

A critic is just an opinion that has more eyes on it, & literally its the everyday person that gives them this power & any meaning.

Also, lets not act like critics are just saying s*** to say s***. To the average person they respect that most of them seem to have more thought, experience & knowledge on the subject, & mainly the average person likes how they have an effective & clear way to describe how they feel & their answers for the hows, whys & becauses of their feelings. Which a good amount of people arent good at & why they admire those that are. This goes beyond critics to things such as leaders, preachers, book authors etc.

Art has literally been criticized longer than recorded writing, & its the everyday man that props the critic up.

If you dont like it, cool, but it does have its purpose, point & reason, & there are tons of people & even artists themselves that do like & want it.

And to me, that want is valid.

    very strong counter argument

    i salute you

fantano did the same s*** recently in one video, bro u didn't suddenly "get" kreayshawn it's just that it's cool to like her now and it wasn't in ur stupid bubble when it was released

I can't believe I'm defending Fantano but it's not wild to think he saw a youtube comment or Twitter thread that completely opened his eyes on her gimmick but it could be questionable timing if he really did change his mind why shouldn't he say that? It should be encouraged when people's opinions grow instead of being stuck with the same thing

    peace to you

And to u friend . I agree in the purity of experiencing music, and how the process of digesting and sitting with it is almost entirely lost due to how quickly critics will introduce their own opinions negative or positive in the time of immediate reactions.

You almost can’t experience the music in a vacuum because you’re already thinking of what other people think or will say or are saying. And it makes people less confident in their own tastes and perspective overall which is what matters more than anything, because you’re relying on someone else to confirm your opinion as a good one or inform it. There is nothing on earth more lame than using someone else’s opinion on music to prove something or confirm yourself. Only your taste matters

The thing about music as an art form just like any other is that it can be interpreted in multiple ways. The point of a song or album for you will be different than the creator intended or how other people take it in. There's whatever point you want there to be.

People who call out "real rap fans" or "casual fans" are simply gatekeeping, which is toxic and hurts everyone and the genre more than they think it helps. It's how you stay stagnant and never progress further and grow.

The assumption that calling out critics or fans or having gatekeeping leads to no progress is unwarranted. There was gatekeeping in hip-hop in the past and rap grew both commercially and musically. You need proof to back up your claim.

Music is also culture. Cant speak on s*** you don't know about.

there’s no guarantee that it will always be a good one that’s why i’m always careful with it

scores are pointless anyhow. nah, the more I think of it the more it makes sense. its like I cant be bothered with the score but I still want to know whats the consensus is from this particular platform. I feel like if publications want to use ratings with their reviews then its a good compromise. 'feel free to read one guy's opinion if you care for it' sort of thing

    elaborate

Influencers sell an unachievable image of beauty, success and perfection just like the popular rappers and pop singers. They are actually being used to promote music and trash ass products that'll never do anything but ppl buy them anyway (ppl wanna imitate whatever influencers do, so they even wanna listen to the same music, it's known that they get paid to post themselves listening to artists)

Influencers give us a vapid look into their life (they themselves admit it sometimes recently bc they're aware of the negative impact they have), we only see their happiest/beautiful moments, they take hundreds of pics pics and then upload the one where they look the fittest through manipulating angles/lighting/photoshop/surgery/etc.. a lot of them look different in real life than they do in the pics

Thus set unrealistic goals that most of us will never be able to achieve (the biggest secret nobody wanna tell you is that we have no control of how popular we are and no matter how hard we try most of us will never be as rich as the rappers we look up to)

Hip hop culture was charming because of the struggle, pain and harsh realism the rappers inflicted but at one point it started being appropriated to promote images of luxury and perfection on some Hollywood s***.. imagine if this was addressed by one of the top rappers through a concept album

Just because someone gets rich doesn't mean their problems in life are over. They just choose to hide them and sell the same "rags to riches" story we've heard a million times

Basically we should bring back rappers talking about being poor or even having average people's problems, and the more we get a deeper/realer insight into the life of famous and rich people the better. We need to see all the sides of their lives and not just the turn up f***ing hoes mindlessly doing d**** side.

Sure we had some people touching it on some songs and lines but it still needs to be addressed much more

the source was at one point. Turned out to be a terrible gatekeeper. XXL back in the 2000s was as well. I would say OG rappers were at one point. Maybe puffy and dre back then.

We really dont have any now

Hip-hop progressed despite the gatekeepers not because of them. Be real g

If the gatekeepers got what they wanted Em, Ye and Wayne wouldn't have even made it You wasn't around when the media tried to take them down constantly? They went through the s*** and made it on top anyway

That's proof that we need outside people instead of just the east coast west coast niggas before them.
