bro i am a tyler fan, im usually defending him in the hate threads, but i REFUSE to give tyler credit for p having a resurgence, especially when tyler has only been arguably in the mainstream for the past 5 years or so

In the past 5 years? How old are you fam? Not asking that disrespectfully. But I feel like you aren’t remembering how big the 2010-2013 run was for Odd Future and the original wave of obsessive stans pre flower boy that were literally following and doing anything Tyler liked

Yes the Daft Punk collabs are exactly what took off for him in 2013. But I’m talking about in general as far as people talking about him highly again Tyler is definitely to thank for that pre 2013.

Y’all are forgetting how influential Tyler was to a lot of artists taking off on the strength of his recommendation and all his Stans wanting to be like him. Toro and Tame would be 2 of the better examples to compare with Pharrell. His obsession with P and fondness of the other 2 put more attention on all the above. I remember 2012 KTT very well and the influx of Pharrell and NERD threads, posts, etc skyrocketed because of Tyler hype. Same thing was happening on tumblr and Twitter.

I think I should have worded what I said better honestly

Yeah he introduced a lot of kids to Pharrell/Neptunes/NERD for sure

Definitely gave Toro BBNG Tame and Krule a big boost too but they were all much smaller

I get what u mean but I think Pharrell still has that crazy run regardless

As a P Stan I hated the last NERD album outside a few cuts. Felt more like a lite sequel to Clones than anything else.

    How?

this s*** is so fresh and creative, sounded like nothing else that was coming out at the time

This is all I’m saying tbh the other post I worded horribly after re reading it. Didn’t want to sound like I was saying Tyler was 100% responsible, just a big part of him being reintroduced

Yeah a s*** ton of kids got into NERD and Neptunes because of Tyler I was there so I know, I already liked Pharrell but definitely became a stan of NERD because of Tyler so I get what u mean

But yeah I think that resurgence was already in the works when Tyler popped

The album was too feature heavy for me honestly. That’s why I didn’t like Gorrillaz first comeback album. It felt like it was more a feature album than a N*E*R*D album. Which is why I said it felt more like Clones to me

at u asking me how old i am when ur claiming tyler made pharrell pop again
i was there all for tylers and of's rise. i know they were super popular but it was different, it was more of a spectacle thing of the movement itself than praise for the music. tyler even says on rusty "bro they never played it, i just won s*** for their f***ing ratings" and constantly would talk about being used basically just for clout but having real music being played. and he was was just talking about his music only getting radio play in the past few years in that hot 97 interview, meanwhile pharrell has literally dominated the charts in multiple decades, making hits for others and himself. so how exactly did tyler's standom give him a second wind when no one cared about tyler's music like that til recently? if anything youre forgetting how nonmarketable tyler has been for years

It was cool for me to witness being a VA kid. I really loved P in middle school because he represented the kind of black kid I was. That’s a big reason I gravitated towards OF too. And to see Tyler loved P just as much and watching P come back into the convo and to a new generation of kids . It was a big deal at the time from my perspective

you hate the album because it has features? 😂 i get not liking it as much as their other albums, because besides Nothing I like their albums way way more but still I feel like it has so many creative and out the box songs and it doesn’t really sound like Clones it just has features

And some really f***ing crazy ones Kendrick Lamar, MIA, Rihanna, Andre 3000, Gucci Mane and they all did they thing on it imo

I think they took a different approach (and I have no proof of this) because i feel like Chad wasn’t doing the best health wise at that time so they branched out and worked with other artist

Definitely not like a classic or anything but definitely a fun and creative album imo, and Deep Down Body Thurst is a classic NERD track, just P & Chad going crazy

I feel like you’re taking what I’m saying entirely wrong. I already said the original post was worded badly. You can look at the replies between me and Mitch he understand perfectly what I was trying to get at. I’m not saying that Tyler is responsible in entirety for P’s second wind. But he was a major influence on him being re introduced to a whole new generation

bruh a lot of people found toro from tyler, like tyler objectively helped toro get more popular i can even find an old tweet of toro saying thar

Tyler popped and toro’s french remix ended up gaining more traction on blogs and s*** back then, and then they did hey you while tyler is like the hot new nigga plus he would always recommend Toro to his fans

Not like he made Toro, but he introduced a lot of his own fans who were young kids not knowing much music to a lot of music

I feel like I need to give it another fair shot honestly. For me I was expecting something different and that bias alone probably factored in. I’ve just never been a fan of feature heavy albums where it feels like features are the majority of the album. But at the same time tracks like LFMP stay in my head 24/7. Going to re listen now while I clean and try to be more fair to the album tbh. I have no problem admiting when I’m being difficult about something and I want to be wrong in this case that I just was never fair about the album

It’s still a super Pharrell heavy album to me a lot of the features just do small parts on the songs, but I will say there were a couple ones I didnt like on it like Ed Sheeran and Wale
