He had huge streaming numbers with SAD! and that was right before his death. He was perfecting different sounds so I feel like he would’ve been huge and right with the people

As a huge Drake fan I don’t doubt he would be huge, but still only cult fan base huge, he had a lot of baggage that wouldn’t slide with the mainstream

It’s not like he was just edgy like Tyler, he was full on violent

Major labels purposely killed the underground so nothing feels organic. Even the "new" acts are already under a major label way before we even hear about them.

    there are

kinda just depends where you draw the line to like an MJ, Prince, Kanye level star though. there are still superstars that aren't on the top level. or other convos to be had about the number of superstars or how they are spread across different styles/regions. all of which contribute to the whole stardom landscape looking a lot different than before

As a huge Drake fan I’m completely aware but the mainstream would’ve dug it up every chance they got and it would’ve ruined opportunities that other more clean/family friendly acts get

I think its simple as being that many of the newer names in hip hop just don't put out music thats digestible by the masses

Someones 50 year old mom can get down to Nice for What or All Falls Down (well could've pre anti-semitic arc), but she isn't listening to Ken Carson, Carti, or Uzi (all artists that were considered to be "next up")

I know this always gets repeated in these discussions, but Juice probably had the greatest chance at being a superstar of any new artist that came up since 2016, especially if he expanded his subject matter past d**** and depression as he got older.

But also its cuz no one wants it. Ppl saying its hard rn but imo its the easiest time to be a superstar

    • all the competition for a “superstar” died
    • most of the sounds and aesthetics are rehashed and ppl are bored

So all a nigga got to do is be someone who can be more creative than the next guy but in a loud and digestible way. Someone could easily just come up and be different and use tik tok differently and ppl would catch on

But no one wants to snatch the crown. Im a drake hater but ive always respected how he wasnt afraid to do that. He wasnt afraid to snatch a mic from diddy etc

  • Sep 26, 2024

What mediums are a superstar supposed to exist on if s*** like TRL and 106 is gone

That dont even get into how in every mainstream popular genre the linear evolution of traditional skill just stopped because of technology starting around the early 10’s

Also we at a point where people want an aesthetic or moment of being an artist because of the 2000’s but dont actually have the same work ethic as the wayne beyonce hov drake kanye etc class of people that inspired niggas lol

Even if we say this is true and Juice X and Pop were the Kendrick Drake Cole tier stars of this generation (respectfully not really) we would be at a point where their reigns would be slowing down too if 2017-2019 was the starting point

The people who would have come after them should already be here/are already here but the games ecosystem just isnt the same lol

Never considered that it was purposeful but also this. Its like youre a local or social media act and then empire or 300 or asylum or alamo or some tiny label thats not really a major scoops an artist up and they still kinda move like theyre in the underground. So many street rappers from my local scene ended up in a weird grey area like that trying to take the first deal to get away from the streets but they don’t really have the major label backing and now they stuck in a contract
