i don’t think shoegaze will come back but won’t be surprised if it ends up influencing something like rap or maybe another genre with some of its characteristic like how punk didn’t come back during the 10s but influenced the underground scene

I mean, that's basically what cloud rap (kind of) was in the early 2010s

Also, in what world is Glow On by Turnstile shoegaze? Super great album, but that record's primarily steeped in hardcore taking influence from dream pop more than anything

theres a lot of crossover these days, shoegaze is just changing, being mixed and there are other terms for the mix but idk whos actually using them, or why a distinction is even needed to begin with

theres some articles out about it, its just whats been happening this decade

id rather debate what genre new lil ugly mane is. still cant figure that out

  • oh boyyyy do i have a lot to say

  • more than flash in the pan for sure, its symbolic of a greater musical movement

shoegaze being the genre to rip will be flash in the pan. but ripping from decades prior in rock will not be

Fair enough, it's a hodgepodge of various genre clashings these days certainly. Someone like LUM's definitely an interesting case study amidst it all

exactly, genres just change and get mashed up all the time. I dont get saying theres 0 shoegaze in glow on, its just not going to sound like shoegaze 30 years ago. Most genres are mashing together right now anyways. I dont understand why we need new genre terms for stuff that is just a somewhat new take on a style

its funny I get clowned on in real life a month ago for not thinking or getting why glow on was shoe-gaze-ish at least and now dudes online clowning me for saying nah it definitely fits as at least part of the genre. thats the internet lmao

Lum is just something else I cant figure out though lately. neo-folk-emo? sounds so stupid lmao

It’s literally hardcore and then some songs are slower but there’s not like this wall of sound anywhere on the album. There’s some really dreamy sections of the album but just cuz something sounds floaty doesn’t mean it’s shoegaze.

yeah ive never heard turnstile referred to as shoegaze before entering this thread

I don't disagree with the premise of the thread but how tf is Glow On a shoegaze album

    Gatar pedel

As I said in the thread tho I had a hard time getting why everyone calls it shoegaze, but everyone I've talked to irl insists it is and says the guitar pedal use and styling of guitar riffs is the main catalyst for it. The main guy that I let influence my take literally makes shoegaze so I took it to heart, plus a multitude of people reinforced that over the last year or so, including a person I know that's toured with a handful of big names nationally

I barely listen to shoegaze, I barely like turnstiles, but it does seem online a lot of people get stuck on using sub-sub-genre terms. Idk what you'd call glow on really then, but I would never call it hardcore punk

After the Night is basically a greatest hits album but better

One of the best live albums I've ever heard
