ya I was a big reader before and it slowly just transitioned to me reading the internet on my phone lol
you do get exposure to a bunch of information but I wish I built better habits with it early on
Sameeee
And I always say the same thing about phones giving you access to endless information, but facts. What good is all that information if you don’t take advantage of it and have terrible habits anyways
Allow them to think freely and come to their own beliefs instead of forcefully indoctrinating them into your belief system....
im going to make my children read the bible the quran the torah and the god delusion then they can pick which they prefer and ill be the best parent ever and they'll be the happiest kids ever and our family will simply be perfect so glad im raising my kids this way
this thread is living breathing proof as to why Descartes is hopefully burning in the deepest parts of Naraka fathomable
nigga dropped the cogito ergo sum and we’ve been obsessed with “””logic””” and “rationality””” ever since, very crazy unfortunate stuff
If this is about my reply blame skinner not Descartes
no social media until middle school at the earliest. except for youtube if thats considered social media
Religion (Islam at least) teaches you principles and a good way of living thats beneficial to yourself and others.
Proven my point ❤️
If you believe something is true and good for your kids why would you not teach them...
It's a belief, not a fact. If they express interest, you can teach them but otherwise you shouldn't force your belief on them
yeah so anchored in biology that the Greeks practiced pederasty, the Aztecs practiced human sacrifice, some Native American tribes would throw their children to the wilderness and force them to make their way back, the Vikings would leave malnourished/sick babies out to die in the wilderness from exposure, ya know, very regulated by biology
it’s almost like morals are colored by their cultural and societal contexts, but that’s just me i guess
It's funny that you say that because many of what you said is practices rooted in religion
It's funny that you say that because many of what you said is practices rooted in religion
that’s rather tangential to the overall point being made lol, if morals were so instantiated (and dogmatically regulated) biologically like you say they were, people wouldn’t deviate from it dude, im sure you’re the millionth dime a dozen materialist that thinks humanity is enslaved to their genetics or whatever
no one takes moral intuitionism serious anymore it’s 2024
pick up a book, they left that in the powdered wigs era
These atheists on here are delusional
that’s why i don’t bother no more dawg lol
no point in arguing with these cult members frfr
not really
it's just a belief
rejecting any and all forms of belief system(s) requires axioms that necessarily reject anything that would form a particular belief system within itself
secularity is not neutral bro, that’s not how things work lol
that’s still a belief system
I think you're confusing what I'm saying with atheism

I don't think social media is good for anyone to be raised on. it's already not good for the mental health of adults. so its exponentially worse for the developing mind of a child because their real world experiences are gonna forever be distorted by the opinion and feedback of strangers and frenemies on social media.
I don't imagine myself having kids, but I have a niece. I don't want her to be heavy on social media but its not my choice to make. Her parents both use it for professional and personal reasons, but they have made it an effort to rarely post her and not be on it heavily around her. she watches Youtube though, so she's already on the pipeline
If she ever starts twerking on instagram I'll have a problem with it forsure. but realistically, I grew up posting on ktt, twitter, and IG. so the same sort of thing will be going on at an even earlier age for her generation. you can hardly prevent them from liking it or joining eventually.
The goal is to get kids to understand that social media is not real life, but it's easier said than done.
anyways i don’t plan on ever having children but if i do hell no
unsupervised internet access in any way shape or form is a no go
if your parents prevented you from using the unrestricted internet, do you think you'd be a better person? smarter? more sociable? who would you be?

I'm saying the morals don't come from religion, it's the other way around. It's something we evolved to have instinctively so that we could survive as a species. That is my point. Of course, as humans, we deviate from our instincts many times due to our consciousness. That's what separates us from the animals in the jungle. Many of the practices that you presented comes from belief systems, not instinct

definitely more sociable. i feel like i spent a load of time online during my childhood ( + video games) i also feel like it would’ve been good to not be introduced to p*** at such an early age at that too
i just kinda wish i had took that time i spent online and invested it into something that matters to me now, like playing an instrument, making music, maybe writing, idek, thankfully i was always an avid reader even around that time (which took a huge hit when i got a phone in my teenage years) but im pretty sure other children would much rather prefer scrolling endlessly on a device than picking up a book of some sort
