Taking kids to a raunchy drag show is an obvious no though, I once went to a club where a drag queen was DJing and her crowd work was insane, pointed at a dude and said 'Look at those teeth! If you gave me a b****** I'd end up Jewish', that's stuck with me ever since
Everyone is going to become sexually active and want to experiment at some point. Doesn’t matter who they are around good or bad. Make sure they know how to do it safe when they decide to. Your kids have their own conscience, they are going to make choices you can’t control them, they will learn and grow. You can try to guide them, but withholding information in relation to sexual activity is going to lead to disaster. You have to remember at a certain point they are going to not be kids anymore, around 12-13 is when they need to know at least the basics.
More importantly in this day and age I think kids need to better understand how to critically think and digest content. The internet will grant them access to unfiltered content constantly, try to monitor their exposure to it and prepare them for the amount of misinformation they are going to run into and teach them how to fact check things. Teach them about how propaganda works early. Especially with A.I. progressing as it is now and education regressing at the same time. Don’t let public or religious schools dumb down your kids.
"I think kids need to better understand how to critically think and digest content"
this is my mission in terms of having kids. i want my kids to have all of my good traits and none of the bad as much as possible. I want my kids to live freely while being wise, and i think the best way to instill these values is thru understanding who they are as individuals and supporting them.
when it comes to sex, i just am not so concerned because in my day most kids wasnt rly f***ing like that, i think it will still be like that in the future, the kids who was doing all that s*** was usually kids with rly bad relationships with their parents
ultimately i think if im happy and living my best life they will follow suit
@ToPimpAPennyStock brought this up in the Ralph Yarl thread and I didn’t think the conversation should continue in there.
What are your thoughts on ‘teaching children about drag queens’? And Mr Penny Stock, can you expand on that? Are we talking about sitting em down and having a long talk about the history of drag, or are we just talking about the possibility of a drag queen library reading?
@op don't know why I didn't see this earlier when I logged in. My bad. I'll read the rest of the replies as well but yeah sitting down and teaching a toddler about drag in the form of the book that was posted is ridiculous.
Teaching kids about Drag Queens/Drag Shows and other LGBT movements should happen if you want your child to be a knowledgeable and productive non bigoted member of society. For the same reason you should teach your children about multiple religions
With that being said there's an age when that's appropriate and talking to toddlers about drag or by extension sexual liberation movements or sexuality period is inappropriate for a child that age.
Also, it's not about shielding toddlers from seeing same s***couples, I don't know why that became the topic.
Yes your child should know men can be with other men, women can be women, and you shouldn't try to hide that fact from your child but diving into sexual movements is strange and inappropriate
I wouldn't hide it if it was age appropriate. Them b****es dance like any other dancer in the public. The raunchy ones are clearly labeled for adults only every time.
^^^
Toddlers was the discussion
No that is not okay
Depends on which drag performer and what age?????
Like nina west is definitely for all ages including toddlers
Ms ma’am has her own duet w kermit from the muppets: reddit.com/r/rupaulsdragrace/comments/o9bq04/nina_west_and_kermit_the_frog_singing_rainbow
Whereas someone like sami landri whose performance is in many ways about vulgarity maybe can wait lolol
I mean no I'm not out here trying to expose my 4 year old to 21+ drag shows but I'm also not going to shield my kid from the existence of drag queens or speak poorly of them. They're just people living their lives.
The only correct answer.
Why would children be at a bar at all?
They were privately hosted events a company I worked for catered that didn't have any age restrictions, and some kids were there. Personally wouldn't have brought a kid there, esp after walking in on people doing ketamine in the bathroom lmao
I mean if you say yes then you're gonna banned lol so why even ask
Couple people said yes and weren’t banned afaik. But yeah I almost tagged a mod and asked for some leniency for people to answer honestly
It’s hard to try to soothe peoples fears when they aren’t allowed to speak them
Not gonna raise my family in some big/fast/progressive city like California or New York for some attention seeker trying to prove a point to come in contact with my elementary or younger aged son.
The state I live in was boring but I never saw no s*** like that in daily life lol

Exactly. There should never be a zero tolerance policy for opinions as long as you keep it civil. I feel like i should say i'm very open minded and totally cool with trans rights before people attack me

Yeah I live in progressive Southern CA and I’ve seen very few drag queens in person lol. It’s almost exclusively just a gay club thing and obv the show has brought a lot more eyes on it.
But what do you mean by attention seeker trying to prove a point? Do you think the readings and other public events are just attempting to create controversy?

I think that if someone is in drag at a gay club or even some type of parade or whatever do your thing. but if you’re going into family establishments/restaurants to try and come into contact with children/families to bait certain reactions then yeah
Not familiar with the readings and whatnot you’re referring to
Definitely not, bc I’m not a bigot
not saying I’d explicitly bring it up either, but ‘shielding’ is a very active, very questionable decision to take
saying shield like it’s not some very niche thing you have to purposefully go out your way to see lol

As a Muslim who's queer I'm so excited to answer this lmaooo
Not rn but I fr need to think about it, but with the upmost respect for drag queens, probably not.

NY do not be having s*** like that out in the open daily though lol
I live in NY, only way you'll find a drag queen is if you're actively looking for one most of the time

But do you really think people dressed in drag coming into a restaurant would be doing so to bait families? As opposed to just having a fun drag date with their friends or coming before/after a show?
You gotta remember the world is still a dangerous place to be publicly gay, and even more dangerous to be publicly in drag or publicly trans. I don’t think many queens are out here tryna risk their lives just to get a reaction out of some middle-aged Trump dad
