People really expose that they know nothing about drag when they associate sexualization with it . It’s literally so fun

  • Apr 19, 2023

    No. Why?

  • Apr 19, 2023

No. It's literally dressing up for a performance, like theatre or a character in a movie or a musician does anything like that.

    Not that complicated.

Historically men used to dress up as women in plays and s*** like that to play the female characters too. hundreds/thousands of years ago.

I'm also not going to play vinyl rock records in reverse to try to scare kids that they're going to hell if they listen to good music either

    except to be ironic

Take that bullshit to the Chum Bucket fr

In some countries like the UK, drag has long been a part of family entertainment, pantomime dames (men in drag playing female characters) have been a part of festive performances for years

That being said I probably wouldn't take my kid to a drag queen story hour, mainly because I'm a good enough storyteller and would want to bond with my kid over stories, dumping them somewhere else to have someone read them stories just feels lazy to me, the drag aspect doesn't bother me but I also don't see what it adds in that situation, but in no way would I want to hide the concept of drag queens from my kids

This is true throughout like history in general lol drag is really like such a normal concept

  • Apr 19, 2023

Children are already constantly exposed to hyper-sexualized female models in advertisements and billboards etc. I don’t see why males wearing the same clothes would be any worse

    So no

Yeah! It was literally illegal for women to perform on-stage so all of Shakespeare's female roles were played by men while he was alive, to describe drag as this inherently insidious thing is insane to me

  • Apr 19, 2023

Green Day literally have a song that they perform while dressed up in drag

Makes me wonder if they’ll even be able to perform in Florida anymore (without axing it in its entirety, and it’s a hallmark of their sets).

OP this ain’t a knock against you but I can’t believe we’ve got to the point of even asking this in 2023 Lmao

I remember getting back from summer camp one year and telling my dad about a cross dress dinner night they held. he was mad and I didn’t really understand why. looking back he was probably concerned about how we swapped clothes and what could have gone on before and after the dinner but

  • Apr 19, 2023

I discovered drag queens from that video game Twisted Metal 4. Didn't affect my life in any way other than expanding my knowledge. Wasn't even a talking point with my parents, who don't have any idea that character is even in the game or exists.

It’s true that in a lot of their performances, drag queens play into promiscuity. It’s part of the gag for a lot of queens to be this hot, feeling-themselves, bodacious woman.

But as I said first page, drag isn’t exclusively raunchy. So would you take issue with your kid seeing a drag queen just strutting down the street for a Pride walk? If they asked about the queen, what would you say?

Also — ‘Sex ed shouldn’t be taught until high school’ is wild. Educate your kids so they don’t get taken advantage of or end up pregnant

That's disgusting wtf, that's honestly depressing, damn yea imma definitely street them away from doing too much s***stuff early, mainly just by making sure they being productive and having good friends etc

Everyone is going to become sexually active and want to experiment at some point. Doesn’t matter who they are around good or bad. Make sure they know how to do it safe when they decide to. Your kids have their own conscience, they are going to make choices you can’t control them, they will learn and grow. You can try to guide them, but withholding information in relation to sexual activity is going to lead to disaster. You have to remember at a certain point they are going to not be kids anymore, around 12-13 is when they need to know at least the basics.

More importantly in this day and age I think kids need to better understand how to critically think and digest content. The internet will grant them access to unfiltered content constantly, try to monitor their exposure to it and prepare them for the amount of misinformation they are going to run into and teach them how to fact check things. Teach them about how propaganda works early. Especially with A.I. progressing as it is now and education regressing at the same time. Don’t let public or religious schools dumb down your kids.

i’ve been to a decent amount of drag shows (have a friend who does it) and i would not take my kid to an adult drag show, as they aren’t meant for kids, and they probably wouldn’t be allowed in anyway as they are usually 21+ lol

however, i also wouldnt hide their existence from my kid and if there was child friendly event we were at that had drag queens then that’s cool too

    all about context

I would not take my children to a club for a drag show or a burlesque show or involve them in pageants. It’s very bizarre that parents even want to bring their children to such events

  • how

  • i really don't think you can shield children from anything even if you do at your house they go to school and are pretty much exposed to everything from word of mouth

    idk who cares
