I love Dark Souls 2. It has the most personal, human story, a ton of build variety, and is a massive experience. That's enough to make up for the unpolished, sometimes questionable design choices.

this pretty much - it's the only one where the story actually has that kind of feeling to it imo, he whole thing with the giants having crossed the seas and being screwed over by Vendrick (sp?), the fact that you even get to play flashbacks, and then the way this plays into your own little story coming off the opening where your character has a wife or whatever and you basically get your ass dragged to this land of the dead or whatever

s*** just felt real interesting coming off DS1's more ambiguous Gwyn/first flame stuff

This is a bad take but it's certainly not the best.

It stands out from it's predecessor and does something different. I enjoy it a ton and its satisfying to get past areas even though the bosses are all relatively easy

Honestly my least favorite is dark souls 3. It feels like an awkward child of the series. Bloodborne and DS1 are the best.

DS2 probably my least favourite of the Dark Souls games (still better than Demon's Souls though) but overall I think it's a damn good game tbh

Majula is heavenly, easily the best hub in the series, it really feels like you're catching a breath of fresh air whenever you return there after some arduous s*** - makes it feel more like a 'journey' overall

some great areas and moments scattered throughout, and a story that's quite different and unique from the Miyazaki-directed games

top-tier DLC, like I can't recommend the Lost Crowns Trilogy enough, some really exciting s*** all through that - one of them has this insane one on one boss fight with this samurai dude on a huge balcony with this gorgeous sunset that is way more fun than anything in Sekiro imo

majula's cool, but it feels like i'm on a beach vacation in italy. i want my souls to be grim and depressing. firelink in DS3

it has the best vibe imo. whenever i play DS1 or DS2 i just miss DS3. it's also the one i started with so it has that "i'm back home" feel to it.

I like DS2, but it has some of the worst hairpulling areas in the series

Iron Keep, The Gutter, Black Gulch, Shrine of Amana, Undead Crypt all f***ing suck.

    Oh god Undead Crypt

iron keep had some bullshit spots.

shrine of amana was awesome to look at but yeah those f***ing caster b****es + slow water + holes + random priest dudes and water corpses swarming you make it a s***hole of an area. hauled ass as much as i could to get out of there.

and that dumbass turtle that shoots orange mist and damages your gear, wtf? who thought "yeah, this is fun design." there's so much s*** in this game that's just plain annoying.

Dark Souls 2 is a masterpiece and the greatest in the series. Dunno how anyone can disagree and the floor is totally open for a discussion.

Minus the lack of interesting boss fights in the base game, terrible hit detection, terrible enemy & horde placement, most bullshit moments in the series, and having to spend upgrade points on adaptability, it's still worth playing imo.

if you liked the first one you will def like the second one. deadass do not listen to people crying about slightly worse hit detection than the other games

i can’t imagine enjoying Dark Souls and never playing the second one

Just level your adaptation up to 20ish. They tied your dodge rolls to a stat for some stupid reason but once it's at that level it'll feel normal.

At this point I like it more or less as much as DS1 but I think DS3 obliterates them both

i’ve never been able to finish that one, came close multiple times but I the game just doesn’t connect. Night and day quality wise to me between 2 and any of the other entries

Art style is so unbelievably ugly to me as well

the hit detection is worse than bad. Getting magnetically pulled to the side 30 feet after a clear miss happens enough times to make me put the game down every time. It’s not even challenging it’s just nonsense

There’s also the whole thing of them just stacking 8 enemies, not weak mob enemies like in bloodborne and ds3, but like big unique powerful enemies to fight at once in every room when the game’s combat, and camera especially, is built for methodical one on one encounters. Sometimes the FIRST ENCOUNTER with a new enemy will be in fighting a group of them. The bonfire placements are insulting as well. Just lazy design at every turn
