Drake is too unique for real
I feel like it’s kind of wrong to fully box him out of hip hop lol like he’s done some good spitting. And his run is obviously the greatest
But if you really love hip hop then you should be able to see where Mos is coming from. It’s not an indictment on drake, he just played the pop game more than most. On one hand you’re going to get the success but the purist is never going to hold him high like that until Mos generation is gone. Just is what it is
Yeah, Mos probably hasn't heard those Drake album cuts where he's talking about real s***. His exes, his possessions, his enemies, etc. It's Biblical
This is gonna cause a s*** show and expose a lot of hip hop fans but i’m just here for the comments
Never forget mos starred in the first visa debit card commerical
!https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=750wMOXOGRAMos is underrated as an icon, he was actually such a star in that time period. I really respect what he did for hip hop
Putting on Mob Ties while shopping for kombucha at Target and pretending you have opps
He’s right
Just here to say Mos Def is a greater rapper than Drake could ever hope to be before his demented stans come in here to start narratives
I don't think the guy having to resort to performing MF Doom covers for anyone to show up to a show of his is any competition to Drake.
Putting on Mob Ties while shopping for kombucha at Target and pretending you have opps
wasn’t there a viral clip of a dude vlogging himself buying detergent or some s*** set to a drake song
Yeah, Mos probably hasn't heard those Drake album cuts where he's talking about real s***. His exes, his possessions, his enemies, etc. It's Biblical
lmaoooo
Nice now drake fans gonna start pretending they listen to Mos and hate his music
And yeah there’s some underhand stuff going on here as well as per usual against Drake being a rapper
If you hold the ghostwriting s*** against him cause some hiphop principal s***? Cool I don’t but respect. But the Drake is pop s***? Aside from the limited frame of reference part, this is classic “Drake isn’t really one of us” code that has nothing to do with music but is played off like it only does
Won’t get into it amongst a bunch of non white users but that should let y’all know what’s at play here. “Drake is pop” goes beyond genre talk
He’s right
Just here to say Mos Def is a greater rapper than Drake could ever hope to be before his demented stans come in here to start narratives
in all honesty i dont think ive heard a single mos def song on the radio
simply an observation though
Yeah, Mos probably hasn't heard those Drake album cuts where he's talking about real s***. His exes, his possessions, his enemies, etc. It's Biblical
Let’s go through the checklist
Wow I see no lies
ironically Drake be rapping more than rapper's favorite rapper. I f***s with Mos though
Hotline Bling, One Dance, In My Feelings, Gods Plan, HOWGH
This is Drake to most people. Limited frame of reference
Mos Def isn't most people though
Y’all gotta remember these type of generalizations about artists are based on patterns found in their most crossover singles and nothing else
Ehhhhhhh
I feel you fam but Drake has entire singing albums, like a lot of people consider Take Care and FATD more r&b than hip hop (I’m one of them)
That definitely contributes to it, it’s not just the singles. The one thing Drake hasn’t surpassed Hov at is achieving that balance where you can get the purist love while still doing the pop singles. Granted jay actually got a good amount of flack from backpackers in the late 90s but still.
Drake has always been dead set against trying to please the purist almost on some rebellious s***, this just comes with that territory
I love Drake. I'm a giant stan like most of us here. But Mos Def is MOS DEF. That man can rap entire f***ing planets around Drake. So if it's money, fame and clout, yeah it's Drake. But if it's RAP it's Mos Def.
