Wayne definitely had a pop era, are you serious?
Did you read my question fam?
I remember walking into American Eagle last year and hearing that Keke do you love me song. Mos def is 100% correct and Drake stans will be in denial but it's true .. lot of his music is shopping music that fits that whole target aesthetic lol
Wayne definitely dove into the pop realm
Anyone saying he wasn’t at his peak don’t understand what it means to be pop
I understand if you're talking popularity, but even back then, rappers would be compared to Rockstars, not pop stars come on now😭
He's right.
Grown men who are Drake stans been caping for a popstar like some females this whole time.
Sad!
Pop is an insult in Hip Hop.
Well drake leaned into it and made it clear he doesn’t want those purists to fw him so
@Brave This is why lmao
Shortly after the article was published, Drake hopped in ComplexMusic's Instagram DMs and left a suggestion: "Can you do an article now where the baddest Instagram girls in the world review my poetry book, not the head of the Mos Def fan club... Thanks 😂."
Makes sense on why he said this lol
This is an insanely disrespectful thing to say about a rap legend wtf
Key word rap legend. Rap and hip hop are two different things

Forgot about this
I see where the salt is coming from
ima popstar, not a doctor
Im slaughtergang I baited em
His opinion must be true because he’s a dusty old head who’s music I used to enjoy
Used to? f***ing L nigga
nigga in houston they got UGK playing in target
Real
Dunno why people act like you gotta have some super conscious meaning behind every single track you lay. Drake has plenty of relatable and inspirational music from his come up and although a lot of that is gone now (which makes complete sense considering his stature) there’s nothing wrong with good music for the sake of being good. Not everyone wants all their music to be deep some people just wanna put some s*** on that sounds good while chillin, goin to the gym, working, at a party whatever and Drake got tracks for all of it
That’s good for you?
Hes probably my #1 rap artist I go to if I wanna hear a track about relationships I guess
I wasn’t insinuating he had to be socially conscious in his raps to have meaning. I’m just questioning what I get from him. A tangible effect on my life, since he’s probably top 5 artist just based off my consumption of his music
he said y'all boys out here banging pom poms lol
that being said drake prob gonna fry him up lol
In for Drake to fry him tbh. The battle record is probably drake’s best argument for being hip hop tbh, after I think of that I gotta hand it to him. But I still get the other side and Mos point
Thanks for inspiring Drake to write another classic Yasiin
Drake is easily above Andre and Lauryn to me, I consider them group members and don’t even ever say their name outside of a group context
I’m fine with being the minority opinion. I know this s*** better than the majority and I’m not going to fall in line with overrating people without solo material, and also can’t pretend drake is really “hip hop” like that anymore. And I think it’s mostly because he’s canadian, idk if I’ve ever heard actual hip hop made outside the US
And I think that's the main factor him being Canadian and his image being "soft" for why people don't consider him hip hop.
Even before 808s people didn't consider ye hip hop because of his image. People viewed them as outsiders

Ion think yall want papi to poke this bear

That’s straight fam I won’t coming at you personally just speaking more generally answering the question. I definitely understand that’s just my opinion on him but also at the same time respect differing opinions
So when he was flooding the game with mixtapes and taking peoples beats he was pop? I can’t get behind that.
Drake not really pop either tbh. He’s hip hop through and through but the real reason a lot of people are reluctant to call him hip hop is because of his background tbh
It’s the singing and content too. For a lot of dudes, jilted lover music was never really a big part of hip hop so it feels like something else sometimes lol. He is a true hybrid artist of hip hop and r&b and he probably did the hybrid better than anyone who tried before
Not true at all lol
Lotta rappers under 25 are okay with it and they're the ones actually innovating instead of worrying about how real they look to oldheads
It's not about appealing to old heads imo. It's just the nature of what trends in hip hop clashing with pop, except with rappers like Kyle aka positive ass niggas. Pop doesn't have the grit that makes rap so appealing.

"Actual hip hop" from Vancouver
