Even with the drop in quality this is still by far the best Junji Ito adaptation we have ever had.

I never checked it out because the other things that director did have been s***. Is it really worth watching?

    Yes

Mileage may vary, but it's kino

The animation on episode 3 is a lot better than the 2nd but the pacing is terrible. Idk why this was decided to be a 4 episode series

I picked up the manga this past weekend and after reading the first couple of chapters in that, the choices this production made in rearranging elements of the overarching story may be more jarring than the dip in animation quality. The story surrounding Shuichi's Mom loses a lot of its punch taking that break with episode 2. An interview with the showrunners after this wraps up would be VERY interesting .

Idk if his art is just hard to turn into a visual medium or what

I hate the voice acting too unfortunately. I'm kind of enjoying it but it's so slow and just ass compared to the actual manga. Somehow better than the Netflix series from like a year ago

Couple things. Horror is hard to do. Budgets are lacking. Time is also a huge factor with many of the best people already being occupied with bigger projects for example the Shounen like One Piece, Demon Slayer, Dandadan etc.

Its like asking why there isnt a good Berserk anime. The people that could do it well either occupied or dont get to even if they want.

Sad state of the seinen genre tbh it just dont make enough money

Yeah I get those are difficult issues but why the do voice actors have to sound like literal children? I get it for stuff like shonen but I'm trying to get my wife (who's a horror nut) into junji and this isn't helping

I re-read shiver earlier this month and realized I'm reading everyone's voice as if they're actual people lmao.

I think this is why I quit avidly reading manga like a decade & half ago, if I watch the anime the voices ruin my entire enjoyment of it

This is just factually incorrect, not the adult swim part

So so so many corners are cut, there's classics everywhere if you look but best place ever? Just disingenuous

Need to know the mysterious era of the Japanese anime industry where studios didnt crunch 90 hours for barely livable wages out of their workers.

For the first time in forever there are studios finishing projects months before release due to streaming and finally some financial input from the Western market.

Not to suck their cock cause its still bad as you can see with what happened with this project. I am just saying we do have several examples right now that show it does work differently

Just like we have several examples of it working like that back in the day kyoani, polygon pictures, ufotable sometimes, we can all cherrypick

All of these creative industries do the crunch s***. When they stop crunching, they start cutting corners. This is well known

youre mentioning 10 years ago. Anime has been around since the 60s.

Kyo ani and co lead by example and is the reason many productions right now can be considered relatively healthy

You mentioned the sarcastic "mystic era where anime didn't crunch". That implies history/references the past

"For the first time in forever" nigga we talking about the past. Lol. And how it informs today

This is the "best era for anime EVER" only to people with small points of reference
