yang has some decent policies and i think he's genuine in thinking he's doing what's right (as opposed to many other politicians running who have no real views outside of what corporate interests/establish tell them to do), but he has some downright dumbass policies on his website.

    examples;
    https://www.yang2020.com/policies/votingage/ - lowering vote age to 16
https://www.yang2020.com/policies/move-to-higher-ground/ - take bikini bottom and push it somewhere else
https://www.yang2020.com/policies/local-journalism-fund/ - additional grants for local journalism (asking for corruption/abuse)
https://www.yang2020.com/policies/american-journalism-fellows/ - somehow wanting to invest in "independent press" but also creating a nationalized pseudo-congressional journalist system?
https://www.yang2020.com/policies/modernize-voting/ - move our voting to the blockchain (yang pls dont fall for this meme)
https://www.yang2020.com/policies/media-fragmentation/ - literally create a task force funded by the government to coordinate with tech companies to universify what "truth" is
https://www.yang2020.com/policies/fight-white-nationalism-extremism/ - acting like the white nationalist groups are not already tracked by intelligence. incredibly vague policy
https://www.yang2020.com/policies/algorithmic-trading-fraud/ - as a tech guy you should know you can't just ban algorithms yang, it doesn't work that way
https://www.yang2020.com/policies/minimize-harm-of-modern-tech-on-our-children/ - "Create a Department of the Attention Economy that focuses specifically on how to responsibly design and use smartphones, social media, gaming, and chat apps. It will include overall guidelines, as well as age-based ones."
https://www.yang2020.com/policies/fight-the-spread-of-hateful-ideas/ - "Work with social media and hosting companies" last thing i want are tech firms working with the government to do f***ing anything that isn't some level of open/fair regulation
https://www.yang2020.com/policies/modern-time-banking/ - literal """optional""" government-funded/tracked social credit based system
https://www.yang2020.com/policies/prosperity-grants/ - asking to be abused

the blockchain voting one and the social credit system have me dead

if just done as a blanket thrown over anything that can be called "misinformation" by the government, then thats bad

However, all people with no common sense who think they are super informed cause they read up on theories and jerk to Joe Rogan and Alex Jones, will jump to an extreme conclusion of this is going to be immediately abused.

Like f***ing chill, this could just get rid of the stupid s*** clickfarms put out for ad clicks n shares that are just straight up fake.

  • Nov 25, 2019

Yang should run for Senate. He could probably win as a democrat or a republican tbh

its a symptom of people being ill-informed on how to use the internet. This s***s still fairly new, and people need to learn that they can't trust it. However, we still have people on Facebook who believe everything they see. Obvs we see this in older generations and once they are out, then this "falling for fake news" s*** will most likely go away.

I mentioned this in another post but i think it's slightly disingenuous to say this is simply an internet-related issue. Yellow journalism and tabloids have existed forever. Look at the history of marijuana illegalization in the US because of Hearst for example. Or how the Spanish-American War happened as a result of Pulizter-Hearst straight up lying about Cuba. This has always been an issue in the US as long as mass publications/mass media has existed. The issue is that it's far more exaggerated now because everyone has internet access instantly, whereas before you had to actually get the paper/publication to read the fake news

idk, honestly its a bit complex. cause i feel "fake news" is an easy to dismiss things that are credible. but fake news could also be fake news

& i dont think it'll go away. the younger generation is too caught up with soft shallow politics. like racism and sexuallity. thats literally all people care about

  • Nov 25, 2019

and i say that to say that what young people care about now is definitely by design

It was disingenuous to say that, I'd agree. However, you bring up tabloids, those have been around for a long time, so now when you see the tabloids at your local grocery store you know the headlines you see are fake. Like you said, I'd assume at the start of tabloids n what not, people falled for that s*** all the time.

People are falling for internet nonsense constantly, but with time people will just learn how to recognize the fake from the real. You are correct that its exaggerated now. And also because of the scope of the internet, it has a much farther and therefore possibly harmful reach.

The term "fake news" has been now been giving such a broad definition its ridiculous. When I say "fake news" I literally mean news that is in every way false. Not CNN or Breitbart, I mean literal false news.

I hope this idea of "fake news" as it plays now goes away. Because it is problematic in its usage and how people can just easily dismiss actual real things for "fake news".

I dunno man, I see where you're coming from, but I think you're giving the average population too much credit. You say you are expected to know the headlines on tabloids on fake, but is that really true? Me or you maybe, but National Enquirer has been in circulation since 1926 - people are still reading it. ABC, a "trusted source" put out a video about a firing range and said it was Syria - do you think most people saw the follow-up to it saying it was fake? People religiously follow things like Breitbart or Salon/Mother Jones which post highly manipulated information without questioning it at all. I think it's a lot more complicated of a problem then just weeding out a few clickfarms or something.

its only going to get worse. there will be so many 4d ways to spread disinformation

there will be literal videos trying to prove things to the public, that powers that be can deem a deep fake & vice versa

    well what do u mean

CNN is real news, as much so is Fox and whatever you wanna bring up

S*** just has a bias, doesn't mean its "fake". They take their certain stances to please their audiences and bring in that ad money.

You want "real news", by how you seem to define it, read the AP. That s*** is only facts and no opinion/lean at all. It's also some of the most boring s*** to read as well.
