it's not that i necessarily believe in censorship (I do not), but I wonder at what point you must instate authoritarianism in order to protect the subversion of or transgression against civil liberties. the press is literally acting in a role to actively attempt to subvert access to the truth, or pressure organizations into taking certain positions; i.e. the NYT literally wrote an article on why we need to abolish free speech. There's an interesting question about if civil liberties of individuals could be strengthened by cracking down on the "liberties" of organizations who seek to deny such rights to begin with.

trying to categorize this as 'censoring' the internet is wrong.

it is a horrible idea though that would be easily manipulated by major media outlets and corporations.

imagine thinking click bait fake news and information is primarily being pushed by smaller media outlets and not big ones who would have no problem paying more to continue doing so.

plus the CIA could control what we see even more

I'm aware of the paradox of tolerance but I don't believe this is the same concept, it's at best tangential to it. The paradox of tolerance is rooted in a very liberal preconceived ideology which assumes the same theoretical correctness/strength of every concept, which I already basically disagree with. That paradox is basically saying "well should x be tolerant towards the intolerant if y?"; what I'm saying is less about literal tolerance and more about the actual attempt to subvert rights/liberties through the system made available by those rights/liberties to begin with (a better comparison would be I don't believe in hate speech, but I believe in the concept of groups labeling something as hate speech in order to subvert the idea of universalized speech)

it's an interesting thought experiment as to what level of rights really are universal vs granted through constructed systems. For example, is "speech" a natural right if organizations such as the NYT can essentially pseudo-lobby for it to be banned, while simultaneously benefiting from it? While some may say "well you have the right to speech, not the right to no consequence", there's already a paradox in the idea that speech begets consequence inherently, considering that transcends the idea of speech's relative equivalence to action, if that makes sense. It's why I wonder if a strong state who's purpose was protecting such rights inherently would do a better job than a stateless solution who assumes the rights are natural without intervention

I agree that it's something which would be hard because i assumes those in control share the same interests as the people, which I agree is hard when it comes to the nature of corruption in bureaucracy. But I also do feel to a degree it's something which could be worked towards to strike a balance theoretically
