He literally has a track on almost every project paying homage to at least one artist in one way or another (Practice, WuTang Forever, Teenage Fever, Static Major on Look What You’ve Done and After Dark, DMX interpolation on U With Me?) and yeah, Superman interpolation on Chicago Freestyle and Song Cry sample/video in Marcy Projects for When To Say When like

EDIT: And Ma$e verse from Mo Money, Mo Problems on Worst Behavior

EDIT: And Screw homage on November 18th on So Far Gone in 2009 I’m sure @Vietbrah could come in here and f*** you up some more if he felt like it so let’s just not do this. :word:

    Get em bro

Depends where you look I guess

But back then you didn’t have to look, it was at the forefront. The albums I listed were the biggest rap albums culturally of their time. Nowadays s*** like Travis Scott & 6ix9ine are at the forefront

Where do you stand on this debate?

all the oldheads been right but if you had said it back then you was looked at as a hater my g.

Lyrical rap is still a thing lmao

It’s just more approachable and easier to digest music has become more present due to rap becoming the new pop. The only reason pop is still even alive in its current form is due to insane 13yo twitter stans

What are tangible ways to measure this?

It’s almost impossible but I just don’t think rap is in as bad a state as people think

I don’t blame them because for example Lil Xan was still getting spammed on Snapchat while nobody in the world was actually listening to him

  • May 12, 2020

How many times is this thread going to be made? There’s been plenty of great albums in the past few years

What are some major factors that led to this point in your opinion?

People no longer value the art of Hip-Hop. The lyrics, the story, the production, the competition, the style, etc.. All these things enveloped are experience. You couldn't ride somebody else's sound. You had to stand out. If you wanted to make money your craft needed to show love for Hip-Hop. The pretenders were weeded out much quicker. You had to have a hot album, not just a hot song. Now days it's flooded with people trying to get on a playlist by adhering to the popular sound. The DJ was Hip-Hop. The B-Boy was Hip-Hop. The Cypher was Hip-Hop. The Vibe was Hip-Hop. The Art. We couldn't do that forever. Growth is mandatory. We just watered down the product to stretch it.

Old heads kills creativity and genres, just look at rock and metal.

Totally dead because everybody abide to the old head rules.

Maybe the revolution failed, but at least it was there

    What???
Rock fractured the same way Hip-Hop did. The sub genre became the front runners.

The fact that it’s underground now means it’s dead. If it was alive it’d be at the forefront

Now that you’re stepping into that old head position, how can you use your experience as an anti-old head youth to help kids today make the same mistakes you did?

    Why not? @internetcowboy

    everything is in cycles

tik tok music is just ringtone rap

by 2022 all of this s*** will be over and the new kings will be appointed. then the entire cycle will reset

there is nothing to worry about

Not at all. Hip-hop started underground, and by the time it got popular, there were plenty of great mainstream rappers (consider Jay Z, Eminem, 50 Cent, etc). In the last few years the genre has transcended being merely popular and has become a massive part of the everyday culture in America.

To me, it feels right that all the “real” s*** is underground. It’s back to where it started

That’s so true lmao. I remember reading few message boards from 90’s and early 2000 last year and people were talking down on rappers that are considered legends today

Tbh I liked 90's rap before the modern s*** so never actually had an issue with old heads' taste, just the mentality of looking down upon newer rappers who were actually unique. But now I can't stand most newer rappers so 😣

How can we help this misguided youth without turning them off like our old heads did? Every generation is supposed to be better than the last so how do we do it effectively?
