Depends on the artist on if it’s worth it or not. Like a thug carti or uzi that have a crazy backlog of unreleased heat

  • k dog 99

So downloading albums on Limewire like we used to?

I mean yea. With that attitude artists are going to run to web3 and subscriptions before dropping free s*** lol.

Either Spotify subscriptions bump up to $30, Spotify CEO's bump down their payday, or consumers pay for artist music however they want to release it

I do want artists to go to bandcamp first though.

Man don't hit me with surface level comments if you can't see the bigger picture here

The bigger picture is that most artists can't live off $.005 a stream

He's asking fans for support and in return they get music that was never gonna be released.

You don't gotta subscribe, but b****ing about $5 a month is insane.

So buying albums like how we used to?

You f***ing idiot, a vast majority of people struggle to make ends meet monthly and you want them to drop $50+ monthly to listen to music ? We're not in 2000 anymore grow the f*** up.

Yeah you're either really dense or pretending to be. Either way you have fun paying $5 monthly for every artists you like to fund those artists high end lifestyle.

  • LaFleur

Paying for music that an artist already deemed not valuable enough to be released ? Yeah I'm out.

That may not be the case necessarily. Me and my group have like 100+ unreleased songs that are actually ready for release, the timing just hasn’t aligned for all of it to be released and focused on

Artists really don't understand their privilege man and it's really starting to bother me (and we all get that they someway somehow getting f***ed in the process).

Imagine walking in a bakery or any other store and someone legit telling you that he's going to sell to you a half baked croissant or anything. What I don't allow someone to do I'm 100% not going to allow someone else that makes a zillion time more money to go with it and pretend that it actually makes sense.

Do you think every artist is millionaire?...

I buy albums, only subbed to one artist on Patreon cause she drops unreleased music and covers on there. If you're struggling to come up with $5 a month you should log out and pick up an extra shift at work.

Being on a MUSIC forum and having that take is wild.

Nah this like a bakery you really love that makes unique food, offering to let you try some stuff that’s off menu for a subscription fee
    Your a***ogy doesn’t really work

The only artist vocal about this s*** are the richest ones (Kanye, James Blake...)

I buy albums too, matter of facts I recently bought Claire Rousay's album on her bandcamp (and I encourage everyone THAT CAN AFFORD IT to do it) but you're not only thinking from an american pov (go and ask someone let's say from Argentina how much $5 is worth to him) but you also barely seem to understand how life can be tough for a lot of people. Now you go tell the mother that already has 2 jobs that her kids aren't going to be able to afford to listen to music in the near future because of s*** like this.

Stop thinking about YOU (in a very narcissistic way let me say) and think about the huge amount of people that would be excluded of s*** like this.

offering to let you try some stuff that’s off menu wouldn't that mean that the product is actually fully finished ?

James Blake here is selling demos (or ideas from the studio) which is 100% not a finished product but indeed a half baked product.

So what the f*** do we do? Who's going to pay these artists to dance and sing for us?

The internet somehow made music seem cheap to consume in the long run.

  • Vaulted music is vaulted for a lot of reasons. Not just because it's half baked.

Does it seems to you that the Kanye and James Blake of the world don't already get enough money for their well being to be something that truly should matter to their fans ?

Like I said we all know that labels and streaming services are hoeing them so you either find a way to harm THEM or you just shut the f*** until then.

I'm not American so I know that prices of products and subscription services usually differ depending on the country. Like an album in Argentina is much cheaper than in the US

James Blake is asking you for $5 here not $5 in the US and 5 pesos in Argentina. Just straight up $5. Just like Kanye thought of asking $20 for a Vultures 2 digital download. Stop twisting the whole thing, what James Blake is doing here is some insane bullshit and should only be treated as such.

It's a subscription for unreleased music. And Idk what that crazy man is doing.

You told me have fun paying $5 for music - on a music forum. Then tried to bring up Argentina for some reason. Pay what you can for music I guess.. but don't wonder why artists are going this route when they're being paid so little through streaming.

  • Mar 20

Ariel Pink and George Clanton have been doing this sort of thing for a while. Also another artist I follow Jonah Mantranga has a similar thing. Feels like with smaller artists the fans don’t leak the extra material as quickly

they can’t just put those songs up though, in theory producers could easily sue them if they put up songs without clearing them

Yeah it might not imo it is super niche and overall wouldn’t work out well. I could see die hard fans subscribing to it and that’s really it. Still a decent concept if you mess with the artist heavy.
