Dawg😭I was so confused watching that s*** man I was like, ''why dis nigga putting it inna coffee mug.''
I immediately thought abt that one Tyler Perry movie where girl threw the pot of grits at that one dudes face, 😂man dat s*** was funny as hell.
Yea that’s wat it was referencing the grits in a cup is just straight stupid tho 😭😭
That movie is more a pump fake honestly. Yes from the trailers it looks like yet another Black trauma film, but it's actually more focused on Till's mother and the work she did during and after the situation. Was made with and supported by the Till family so that make it better.
Though personally I've already seen so many documentaries and read so many articles and books related to Emmett Till's lynching and other Black lynchings that I'm just good on that movie. It's definitely a movie made for a newer generation of Black teens and young adults and white people who still deal with that white guilt s***.
It is always tough with that type of movie. On one hand you want the stories to be remembered on the other you dont want to keep seeing these horrible events shoved in your face.

Facts but that's why I appreciate that more of the focus is on the mother and the work she was doing for the Black community so something horrible like that wouldn't happen again. It's definitely a double-edged sword with this story though. But that's why I always urge people to watch the documentaries instead of the extra dramatized Hollywood versions.
This video sums up a lot of the issues with it in an entertaining way.
!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwoJPe-oBjYIt's a movie you watch because it looks good and has a lot of cool scenes. But when you actually sitting down with it and paying attention to the acting and characters...it's pretty bad. There's a lot of plot holes or moments where the viewer just has to suspend their disbelief mostly because they don't really explain how certain moments happen or what the actual motives are of the characters. Nas narrating throughout is also very dry and redundant. It's an alright movie to turn on in the background with some homies, but when you to start to watch it seriously you see where it's bad.
All that being said the movie still looks incredible, there's some great shots and aesthetics throughout the movie. Much of that is owed to Hype Williams being one of the goat hip-hop/rap music video directors. He knows how to make s*** look cool. His writing however is weak. The acting is also gonna take a big hit cause you got rappers and singers carrying the bulk of the dialogue. It also doesn't help that it really seems like they just grabbed some random niggas off the street to be some of the actors. I guess it gives it some authenticity since they're making a crime/street movie, but like...yeah b just watch the movie again and you'll start to understand more.

Mike Tomlin has to have a winning record every year to keep his job but guys like gruden and Matt rhule are given 7 and 10 year contracts without a second thought
This take seems a bit disingenuous.
I would have used another black coach as an example and not Tomlin.

Why not Tomlin? A dolphins team executive said he was "too hip hop" after they interviewed him

The Raiders, Dolphins and Panthers are absolute poverty franchises, that’s why.
If Tomlin was a free agent coach I’d bet he’d get a huge contract as well. Another reason your take was a bit disingenuous is because both of those coaches are now fired lol. Not all franchises operate in the same way.
Mike isn’t going to be fired after this season and he’s going to have one of the worst records in the league. Hopefully this makes sense.

I agree he'd be popular if he were a free agent, but just Google "tomlin hot seat" and there are articles and videos from last week to the last few years lol
I think if a person is heavy in the burbs and has no access to niggas who’s in the hood and live that type of lifestyle they not gonna be able to just “imagine” authentic dialogue.
BUT In todays day with social media (IG live, Clubhouse) it makes it easier to hop in rooms with niggas from the hood (wether it’s NY based, ATL based, LA based, etc) and use it as research for whatever film you’re writing.
Yeah you can feel it as well—an aside the image of some real deal writer taking notes on one of these hood club house messes kills me :

Yeah I know, I kind of agreed with your take I just wish you’d have used another black coach instead of Tomlin. I feel like the culture he’s built in Pittsburgh is amazing but nothing lasts forever. I think he’s been there what, 14 years or something wild? I don’t expect him to get a 10 year extension lol. Pittsburgh doesn’t bounce around coaches like most franchises and the results from doing so are obvious.
Now if you had said Lovie Brown I’d have agreed 100%
Belly hate?
Y'all really take fair criticism of anything as hate lol I said I still enjoyed the movie and that it's entertaining, who is hating?

You weren’t the only one speaking about Belly itt you understand that right?

Fail to see how that changes anything that I said in regards to fair criticism =/= hate lol

You’re the one who brought Primm to this thread my brotha you’ll always be an all star in my book
I agree it has a LOT wrong with it like you said. It’s still a fire ass movie though.

That's why I like the genre of hood movies. Cause even the ones we can agree are bad or aged poorly like Baby Boy, Love & Basketball, ATL, etc we can still appreciate them as being iconic to the culture of Black film.
S***, something like House Party I can recognize being somewhat of a bad movie, but it's still a classic and was getting heavy play in my household when I was growing up.

I really wish we’d get movies like those still, if we have them they sure haven’t been on my radar.
Love & Basketball was glorious
i support black movies if they're good and I want to see it
12 years a slave im sure was pretty damn good, but i refuse to see it because slave movies f***ing suck
the harder they fall on the other hand was a black movie, and I've seen it multiple time because it's f***ing black cowboys with great actors and a great story.
tyler perry moveis are neither good or something i wanna see so i just pretend they don't exist.

Thats kinda what I was getting at too. Those are movies are "bad" in the sense of the more technically aspects of film but they are cult classics among black people because of how they showed certain parts of black culture that were not in film.
A number of hood movies are technically bad but they're loved because they're relatable
Hood movies still being made though. They just trash and go straight to streaming. Last popular one I can think of was True To The Game franchise.
watch, buy tickets for theaters ,word of mouth
if its trash the most ill do is watch it. thats my support ig
