These Black films/tv shows ya'll talking about aren't intentionally made for white people or made to "draw white people in." They just have cross-cultural appeal.

Shows like Insecure & Black-ish have a majority non-black audience while s*** like Empire had a majority black audience. The more rooted the media is in black culture (e.g. Tyler Perry), the less non-black audience you will have.

And there's way more money in cross-cultural media, which is why you don't see s*** like Paid in Full or This Christmas getting made and released in theaters. Studios already focus on Four-quadrant movies to make the most money. Getting money to finance some s*** that will most likely only appeal to majority black people has to be the hardest s*** ever.

Black-ish was definitely made for white people. I never watched it regularly but I remember seeing an episode where Anthony Anderson was explaining what a pick is to the audience

Depends on what type of bad it is, if it's fun bad then yes

Kenya Barris is a rich black liberal navigating through white society and Black-ish is a reflection of that along with his series #BlackAF. The mere concept of these projects are inherently cross cultural.

Problem is black culture doesn’t know how to write “well” like they did in the ‘90s

False. The Hollywood execs only green light black people that tap dance for them and/or are on the woke agenda.

There are a lot of talented black acts and writers who don’t get a chance because they play their politic game.

I feel like a lot of black people are unaware of non-mainstream black media in general. I created a Black film thread that highlighted a lot of unrepresented media, but I fell off updating it. I fell off watching movies in general...but I'll update it sooner or later.

By woke agenda I mean people that a filling token roles. You know with inclusion and all that, there are movies who cast one or two black people for the sake of diversity, but you can tell that they are pandering. They usually pick the worst black actors for the token roles. Good black actors don’t get great placement because Hollywood execs don’t want them outshining their white costars.

All I know is seeing that TILL bullshit on the side of a bus pissed me off. We don’t need no F***ING EMMET TILL MOVIE. Shoutout Jordan Peele for making black led films that are straight up genre films that don’t touch trauma while still being unique to black experiences
