    What I'm referring to:

    blacksportsonline.com/2018/05/wale-explains-how-lightskin-rappers-have-advantage-over-darkskin-rappers-says-it-hurt-his-career

Kendrick out now. Big Sean out now. Wayne out now. Travis out out. Kanye out now. NBA Youngboy out now. Roddy Rich out now. Lil Uzi Vert out now.

So many rappers that ain't light are thriving, except for Wale.

Maybe he's just not that good.

    Thoughts?

colorism exists. naming a few examples that made it despite colorism existing doesn’t prove your point

    i mean both

    edit:

prior to a few years ago, when rap became so mainstream, artists were pigeonholed into boxes based on colorism:
lightskin rappers rapped about relationships & feelings while darkskin rappers rapped about violence & f***in your b****

Wale is darkskin rapping about relationships & feelings. and he debuted while gangsta rap was still the biggest subgenre in rap. so he was mistreated.

In regards to rap, dark skin niggas always been some of the most popular. Yes we've had super popular light skin niggas like LL and Drake, but the genre has been heavily dominated by dark skin black men.

Wale just being bitter and throwing shots at Drake and/or Cole.

You right. It doesn’t make sense it terms of rap because Drake the only lightskin nigga really dominating . J Cole ain’t been the same popularity wise since Forest Hill if we being honest . All the popular rap artist are darker fr . Wale just finding excuses like he always do

So who in the rap game besides Drake is winning that’s lightskin . That’s only one man compared to a lot of rappers

Maybe in regards to being able to potentially use racial ambiguity to their advantage like Drake. Or maybe score an acting career or get some ad deals like Common, Chance, etc. But that's really not exclusive to lightskin niggas. Dark skin rappers been in movies, TV shows, commercials all that too.

Yeah he’s wrong for the most part

Hip hop is dominated by darker skinned acts, like if u a lightskin nigga rapping tough it doesn’t feel as authentic, and that’s just cause of the way the black community was brought up to think of each other.

However, if you a lightskin nigga making mainstream hip hop, and trying to appeal to women and a more non-black audience like a Drake, J Cole, etc. you’d def have an easier time achieving that than a dark skin artist
