    arent u white

Here we are, my favorite part of any thread.

  • Has Wale ever stopped to think that one big reason why his career didn't blow up the way he wanted it to is because of his attitude and taking shots at people doing more than him?

If Wale looked like Cole I think he would be bigger. His ability to make songs for women is up there

colorism exists. naming a few examples that made it despite colorism existing doesn’t prove your point

Colorism doesn’t exist for male rappers.

  • Nov 28, 2020

yea I don't think men in rap deal with the colorism s*** really. idk tho

  • Nov 28, 2020

    It def makes sense.

In regards to rap, dark skin niggas always been some of the most popular. Yes we've had super popular light skin niggas like LL and Drake, but the genre has been heavily dominated by dark skin black men.

Wale just being bitter and throwing shots at Drake and/or Cole.

if wale was lightskined he would be way more than popular that’s a fact

I've lived in DC my entire life and out of 100 DC residents between 18 and 30, maybe 10 would say wale is their favorite rapper

and he gets a s*** ton of airplay here, he just don't connect to the streets like his s*** use to

There’s colorism for male rappers but it’s more apparent in the boxes we put them in

Those barriers are coming down a lil bit in the past ten years due to rap being so global and exploring so many different subgenres

But there’s still those unconscious archetypes we have. Would Wale’s “lameness” be more accepted if he was lightskin? Probably. Would he be more beloved outside of the DMV given the female anthems he makes if he fit that Pac/DMX/50 rugged chocolate s***symbol mold? Perhaps

That’s a good point. If Wale was light skin his behavior would’ve been brushed off as “acting light skin”

    Bernie X

Yeah he’s wrong for the most part

Hip hop is dominated by darker skinned acts, like if u a lightskin nigga rapping tough it doesn’t feel as authentic, and that’s just cause of the way the black community was brought up to think of each other.

However, if you a lightskin nigga making mainstream hip hop, and trying to appeal to women and a more non-black audience like a Drake, J Cole, etc. you’d def have an easier time achieving that than a dark skin artist

    This the truth right there
