Yup and let’s leave 808s there too
We’ve used 808’s since the 80’s. It’s not going anywhere
nah, the genre is cooked and lots of y’all are responsible for it being cooked too
it’s all good though we are moving to pop
outside of olivia rodrigo, sza if she counts and maybe billie pop ain’t faring much better
speaking to the tired rap is dead topic that yall wore to death this year, it’s like yall need to be spoon fed everything and can’t actively look for s*** (and that’s ironic considering we’re on a niche music forum).
yeah, mainstream rap didn’t have the best year, but that doesn’t stop you from looking for quality in other music genres. s/o to @proper, @safe, @Cole2, @insertcoolnamehere and others for actually trying to put people on to some quality different s*** and not making the same ol bs threads for the 100th billionth time.
as for the monoculture is dead s***, look i get that yall just learned that word this year and are doing the usual “wear a new word to death and then never speak of it again” s***, but even if monoculture really is dead (and it isn’t judging by barbenheimer, the gta 6 trailer, and i hate to say it but morgan wallen too) THERE IS NO NEED TO F***ING SAY IT EVERY OTHER THREAD ON TOPICS THAT ISNT EVEN RELATED JESUS F***ING CHRIST.
so imma pray that yall never use those phases again after this year. amen 🙏🏾
Societal wide monoculture being dead is a good thing

It’s tired and the main actual reason for hip hop dying. The music got stale
It started when Billboard themselves highlighted a notable decline in sales and charting success.
Obviously, underground/Indie rap will always pull its weight when it comes to quality hip hop and I ironically get called a hipster sometimes for pointing that out.
But, if mainstream rap is starting to lack in both quality and commercial success, that's actually not a good sign for the genre.
That's the main reason why Juicy J and Ebro sounded off the alarms.
Hell, even KTT's fave, Lil Yachty, basically said that hip hop fell off and ya'll d***rode him for saying something that would be considered "dusty" and "out of touch" if Joe Budden said the same exact thing.

You are grossly underestimating the power of media. Juicy J and Yachty are reacting to media stories and narratives. If those tweets don’t get made, the rappers wouldn’t have reacted that way. Most people are reactionary as hell
If you say so.
But, at the same time, it didn't originate from a "narrative." It came from Billboard just pointing out a statistical fact in how it took longer for a rap album or single to go number 1 than all the other years since 1993.
That wasn't a "narrative." That was a stat.
Now, if you want to say that some people formed narratives based on that fact, there's truth to that.
We used to be a society with dignity. We would look at p****s in magazines and VHS tapes and pay per view TV late night. Like men. With backbones. Now everyone has an onlyfans subscription, rubbing it out to clothed photos? For money? Yea that was the Sears catelog back in the day. Yea the panties section. Completely free. Not being a simp.
It’s tired and the main actual reason for hip hop dying. The music got stale
So this is bass’ fault?
if anything the main reason why rap culture is dead is because yall let cacs like nfr and adam the rapist 22 become the primary tastemakers in rap
Nobody is looking at NFR as tastemakers in hip hop are you serious?
I usually never jump into this debate but artist nowadays are boring to me. They have zero personlity and their music feels the same.
Rappers (alot of them) used to be an enigma, they brought energy with them. Their personality reflected their music.
What todays artist hold themself up like 50, Dmx, 2pac, Kanye, Em, Jay, Method Man , Ice Cube, Andre and so on? None. It's not just the music, the artist themselves act like AIs (to me)
Besides Drake, Kendrick, J cole ofc
So this is bass’ fault?
Nah the hi hats and snares too. Throw the whole 808 kit away lol (except the cowbell)
It’s as dated as Impeach The President or Paid In Full drums at this point, once Ariana Grande and everyone was singing on trap beats it was over. And the drill s*** isn’t different enough
ngl pop ain't doing that much good either
but it depends what you're viewing as pop like an umbrella term or not
im enjoying the music more vs popularity is what i meant
it’s over for the days of global pop superstars for the most part though, unfortunate
So this is bass’ fault?
nah it’s trap’s fault, but this site is far from ready for that conversation
Nobody is looking at NFR as tastemakers in hip hop are you serious?
their videos are recommended to me all the time, they’re mentioned here countless times, i see their tweets all over my TL etc…
mind you i never go out of my way to look for their reviews

when i heard 7 rings i was in shock dawg
Put it this way.
If you have to bring up underground/Indie albums made by 35+ year old rappers or OG's to prove that rap's in a good place, it's not helping your point.
You know things ain't looking that great when 48 year old Killer Mike is being considered for AOTY due to the lack of quality mainstream albums this year lol.
Even the "Big 3" is getting up there in age and hitting OG status themselves.

they know all of this already they just don’t wanna admit it lmao
when u have niggas pushing autumns and destroy lonely as the next big thing with straight faces you know it’s #JOEVER

Yes. With twitters meta being rewired to rage/engagement bait by that little autist Nazi puke, what would once have been a simple numbers stat, got dragged throughout an entire year so blue checkmarks could get a $7.34 check.
Also rap isn’t a formulaic monolith that has its biggest stars dropping annually like clockwork and there is a set number of sales to expect. Different levels of superstars are aging out, some people coming off of their industry deals and going Indy for more money, some people are turning into bi-polar Nazis, etc. There has been years before where no Drake, no Cole, no Kendrick, no Ye and so on and so forth.
I fully believe this is an internet narrative driven for engagement. Wake me up when Morgan Wallen drops a 10/10 classic that anybody can listen to and recognize it as a classic
