Yes. With twitters meta being rewired to rage/engagement bait by that little autist Nazi puke, what would once have been a simple numbers stat, got dragged throughout an entire year so blue checkmarks could get a $7.34 check.
Also rap isn’t a formulaic monolith that has its biggest stars dropping annually like clockwork and there is a set number of sales to expect. Different levels of superstars are aging out, some people coming off of their industry deals and going Indy for more money, some people are turning into bi-polar Nazis, etc. There has been years before where no Drake, no Cole, no Kendrick, no Ye and so on and so forth.
I fully believe this is an internet narrative driven for engagement. Wake me up when Morgan Wallen drops a 10/10 classic that anybody can listen to and recognize it as a classic
So, reporting a statistical fact borders on conspiracy now?
Keep in mind, too, that this is far from the first time that Billboard has reported rap sales like this. Billboard was even talking about rap starting to decline in sales last year.
This is borderline Q Anon s*** lol. It ain't that deep fam.
Of course, you'll have oldheads or rap haters taking that stat and forming their own narratives but reporting the fact in itself means nothing especially when they've done it before.
Also, as I mentioned in another post, the Big 3 and Ye are getting up their in age. Kanye will be 50 in 4 years. Drake will be 40 in 3 years. And Cole will be 40 in 2 years.
If niggas are still expecting 35+ rappers to carry the genre in the mainstream, that's not exactly helping your case.

Bordering on qanon for being able to see through media narratives. You got it all figured out. Thanks for the non-productive discussion where you listened to yourself talk the whole time. Peace and Happy new years

My brother in Christ....how is reporting an actual fact a "media narrative?"
Hell, Billboard never once said anything negative about the state of rap now that I think about it. They even said that the slump might just be temporary.
You're probably confusing media personalities or influencers sharing their opinions with the media itself.
The media itself just touched on a statistical fact based on something unique that has occurred in mainstream rap(Longest time for a rap album/song going number 1 since 1993).
A fact, by definition, is not a "media narrative." The only people sharing narratives were people in the industry or social media personalities, not Billboard itself.

It was an accurate headline up until Uzi got a #1 this year. After that it was carried by idiots and morons until this very moment

you’re coping brother

these niggas would rather believe it’s a grand conspiracy versus an actual talent deficit
Why not post about these new artists and make those type of threads then? Instead of making the exact kind of thread you’re complaining about that’s just more of this discussion for the 1000th time
this is a perfect time to promote one of my favorite songs of the year in a thread which got 0 replies

But the report was saying that it took the longest time for a rapper to go number 1 on the charts since 1993.
So, even if Uzi got a number 1 album in late June, it didn't contradict that fact at all.
Tons of rappers were dropping music throughout those first 6 months but failed to go number 1. That's why it was reported in the 1st place.
And, again, media personalities sharing their own opinions on the topic have nothing to do with Billboard itself.
Billboard sharing a fact about how it's taken longer for a rap album/song to go number 1 than any other year since the early 90's isn't a "narrative." I don't know how else to put it to you.

Everything ebbs and flows man. The sky isn’t falling. A little media literacy would help a lot of you imo

Bro thought Uzi going number 1 in late June was a "gotcha" moment too when the whole point is that it's never taken hip hop that long to produce a number 1 album/song since the early 90's.
And tons of rappers were dropping music in those first 6 months.
monoculture is dead tho
?? how can yall say this when we just had barbenheimer lol

!https://youtu.be/wxYePyR-DRg?si=rM8aazaonHxIcL3ZThis is a great song !! I’ve never listened to this artist
what are some arguments for monoculture still being around (at least in music)?
Aren't many of "those guys" left besides Drake/artists who've established themselves 10+ years ago etc. I feel. Anecdotal or idk if I'm that removed from the mainstream but that's how I view the music space.
rap is def not dead I hate that sentiment so much lool, comes mostly from visitors of the genre anyways so who cares

They started pushing a narrative. It’s the big heads of industry that did this s***. I take it as they have sucked a lot of profits out of rap culture and are now angling to ramp up another revenue stream, country music.
you get it
Been really funny watching people on this site who normally constantly go on about how sales don’t matter all of a sudden acting like the apocalypse is upon us cuz a rap album didn’t go number one for a while
The problem is that everyone is one extreme or the other; they check off the showman aspects but not the rap artistry ones and vice versa. We need a rapper who can be the f***able larger than life character with great aesthetics but also the spitter mc with hard bars and quotables out the ass who can make crossover hits
Rappers are either a fun character who make great music but can’t really rap or a “real” rapper who can’t make great music or anything resembling fun to save their souls

What major artists who would have even had a shot at going number one dropped between that time tho? Aside from Durk and Youngboy and Gunna/Thug who couldn’t even promote there albums properly lol. This was just a year where many major artists didn’t drop in that timespan, and since then there’s been a number 1 rap album every month
claiming a genre is dead bc it sells less than the previous year is hilarious

A huge variety of rappers with decent buzzes in the hip hop space dropped during those months though.
Are you implying that there's less superstars who can put solid numbers than previous eras cause, if so, that's really just the main point I'm making.

Most of those artists with buzz, if you look at when they dropped, were being blocked by either Taylor or Morgan. Even they made Drake move his release date. Those artist with buzz still debuted top 2-3 and did huge numbers. When the artists on that A-list level dropped, they went number 1 and have been consistently since
