Ah okay so when I'm done with Morrison I can go right to final crisis?

It’s batman then final crisis then batman and robin then batman inc all that is technically Morrison’s run there’s a 3 omnibus set that has all of it minus final crisis it’s the best way to read it legally anyways

he said hes leaving because he was ready to move into act 2 and everybody else writing the other books didnt want to move on yet so hes leaving to write bigger event stories for marvel
he probably gonna do some cool s*** for marvel still but this a letdown regardless

Damn that sucks. At least we still getting inferno

  • Crack Palm Stepper

WHY THE F*** ARE COMICS SO INACCESSIBLE mainly talking about the big 2 there’s so many cool stories out there but it’s all turned into a convoluted mess through multiverses like I wanna be able to keep up with marvel and dc but I just don’t see any entry points. Then I see people hyping up big events and stories like age of apocalypse and three jokes but they say u need to catch up on the stories before

Hmm, you know, for me this was one of the reasons why I stopped reading comics bc they're typically a hassle to keep up with.

That being said, alternate universes are actually better for the "Big 2" because ot allows them to deconstruct their character until you find out what makes them "them" I.E Bendis run on Ultimate Spider-Man is, imo, the definative Spider-Man story to understand the core character

Read stuff from Image and Dark Horse instead.

    Came itt to post this.

Best bet is too look up standalone arcs. If you’re somewhat familiar with the character you’ll usually be good to go.

One of the best parts of comics, to me, is how batshit insane they can get.

And not only be batshit insane, but be batshit insane while featuring some of the most well known characters in all of fiction.

Comics GO places that almost no other professional form of media would dare, because it’s often times so unhinged and off the rails, while simultaneously being so goddamn dense (like a concentrated form of stupid that is basically unprecedented anywhere else because it’s literally accumulated stupid over a period of decades).

Like, The Punisher was magically turned black for an issue. Where else can you experience something like that?

Comics are the quintessential example of “throwing everything out but the kitchen sink” except, in the case of comics, it’s more like PLUS the kitchen sink.

This sound so fun but this what I mean when comics aren’t very new reader friendly because imagine starting in between that arc

    Absolutely not.

If you’re going for Marvel, I highly recommend just reading everything Jonathan Hickman had written. He keeps everything he writes in a canonical order and each story references and builds off the other. From X-Men, to Avengers, to Fantastic Four.

Styles vary much more which can make for more interesting content IMO. Typically a manga is written by one author and has the same art for the entire series. Comic books can have a writer and artist interpreting a character one way while another person envisions the character differently. I think the biggest problem with American comics is the hyper emphasis on superheros (same still remains true in manga with shounen), but when you start going into the weeds in independent publishers or even into the more obscure Big 2 titles, there can be some very interesting concepts. Last thing, since I'm not apart of Japanese culture, many of the stories are simply not made with me in mind. One of my favorite characters ever is Static, Dwayne McDuffie had it in his mind to create a relatable black male character when crafting him.

Eh as a reader of both I can’t really choose a side. I’d be more biased towards liking comics more, but I’ve seen the other side of manga and how powerful it is. They really are truly two different types of mediums
