And the anti religious people are just as annoying as the religious ones. There's pros and cons to religion as a whole just like everything else.

its about what the person takes from it

u can take from most of the major religions - being kind and a good example and giving to those who have less than you, themes of unconditional love

or you can go with these hardliners that weaponize their religion and fear to gain and hold onto power and control

Putting someone down for being religious (or atheist) is the worst s*** ever

Humans are inherently spiritual beings. You cannot escape if you tried. If you don’t follow a religion, then there is probably something else in your life to fill that void.

That said, the idea that you cannot be a critical thinker and in touch with your spirituality is non sense. Consume less anti-religious propaganda

    What about agnostics?

I can understand that it’s a logical view. I would ask them do they really think they live their lives agnostic or do they live like life has meaning

Do you think life can have meaning without believing there is a God?

Like personally, I’m not sure if God is real. I don’t think it can be proved either way, but I find meaning in improving myself and helping others. There’s a lot of verifiable proof of suffering here on Earth, and I think it’s meaningful to reduce that suffering

The English words were probably inspired by the concept of a God and a Devil figure, they’ve existed in multiple religions and different interpretations

I agree with the second part but humans are not inherently spiritual IMO, you learn that from your environment

Religion is a human concept that was made before science, we all follow some ethical values in some way but they don’t have to be connected to a omnipotent figure. Sure, today, modern Western societies are heavily influenced by Abrahamic religious cultures (Judaism, Christianity, Islam) and the ideals influence people outside of the religion.

There is not a binary when it comes to that morality IMO, people have different thoughts of what they’re doing is good or evil. A lot of people like religious fundamentalists think they are doing good deeds when killing their adversaries because it goes against their interpretation of the religious text, thus they’re doing what they think their god is telling them to.

Where is sexism and racism in the Bible. Don’t bring up the slavery verse because biblical slavery is vastly different from the slavery we know today. And the Bible never ONCE says to no respect and love gays and minorities. It’s time to stop peddling this bs

I mean, yes, the Bible was altered and edited over the years by different people with different agendas. I agree, the Bible does not hate gay people in its original interpretations as the verses cited against homosexuality were edited by people into that, while the original verses were against pedastry (sexual relations between an underage boy and a man). Biblical slavery was objectively different than modern chattel slavery but they served the same agenda, to control people forcefully to do hard labor with no compensation and that they were hierarchically at the bottom

The question I ask myself if there is no god what possible point could there be for life? We are just random primordial soup evolved to this for no reason?

Most religions are conceptually the same, a middleman (prophet) says they can hear a spirit/deity and they can speak for the deity, they write their interpretations of what they hear into text/pass it down generationally and then they gather more followers to worship this omnipotent being. I personally think there are no omnipotent spirits who pass down information to the lowly human populace, the “prophets” make it up themselves so they can speak their own agenda and ideals into existence and have a big following without actually having to confirm their words and that they have a high authority automatically without questioning or else the question-asker is shunned.

It’s just another form of hierarchy which should’ve been abolished.

I don’t blame anyone for believing it because it can bring positive things, however I don’t think it’s that big of a deal as people make it out to be.

    Maybe there was no point

But now that we’re here we can choose our own point

Make things better, take care of the conscious beings around us, reduce unnecessary suffering

Slavery in its context in the Old Testament is like how someone works hard for their employer today. They where paid for there hard doings in the OT
