No one said that, but it literally peaked during the time when Em was outselling everyone with ease. If anything he was hurt from it too.

2005 was the peak of music piracy

You’re bringing up the peak of piracy in 2005 when we are talking bout 2013-14 lol. All i’m saying is s*** would’ve looked a lot different if piracy wasn’t as rampant. Dats all lol

  • Dec 23, 2024

A whole generation of youngins first introduction to Drake was Not Like Us and Heart Pt 6 lmao

    Its only downhill from here

    In 2013, MMLP2 outsold NWTS 793K to 658K.

Do you seriously think that if all pirated copies of both albums were counted, NWTS would’ve somehow sold more than MMLP2? You’re implying that Em didn’t lose sales from piracy as well

Bringing up piracy is a moot point unless you’re implying that Eminem would’ve not been the highest selling rapper in 2013 if pirated copies has been counted

“I don’t think eminem would’ve been the most streamed artist up until 2014 and 15” is what I originally said. The talk about piracy is to say that em might’ve not been the most streamed artists that year. It’s all hypothetical so it’s not even that deep, just an opinion lol

It’s not a moot point to bring up piracy of streams before the streaming era ever existed

    We were talking streams

As we’ve seen in the streaming era, the highest streamed artists are usually the ones who also sell the most.

If streaming was commonplace in 2014, there’s no reason to believe Eminem wouldn’t have been #1 in streams since he was still the most popular rapper at the time

  • Less hey there Delilah and more of w.e tf this s*** is

  • Dec 23, 2024

    Yes

All he has to do is drop the PND collab and another Papiconda leak but in 4K this time and we'll be back to glorifying him again

  • Dec 23, 2024

ball is in his court. drizzy did it once off the strength of his music. he can do it again.

Travis had the highest selling 1st week this year and wasn’t the highest streamed artist. It’s not that black and white

  • Dec 23, 2024

You also gotta remember how important back catalog is when it comes to overall streams.

To continue the hypothetical on if streaming had become commonplace in 2005:

By 2013, Eminem would’ve had 4 MASSIVELY popular albums all existing on streaming, as well as Encore, Relapse, and the newly released MMLP2, and Curtain Call as well.

He absolutely would’ve been outstreaming Drake, who, at that time, would’ve only had 3 albums available to listen to on streaming

Obviously, but it was a 10 year old beloved mixtape that people were just buying the physicals for the first time for. Obviously it wasn’t gonna do high in streams. Look at the So Far Gone re-release in 2019

Drake is in legacy artist territory now

His reputation in rap is cooked and his pop stardom is slowly fading

His best bet is drop that R&B album with PND and call it a career

Drake and Kendrick are like how the nba has a problem with ratings while Steph and LeBron’s careers come to the tail end.

They’re still probably the two biggest stars in the game but the interest in the genre/sport isn’t the same from a commercial standpoint maybe as it was in their heyday and there isn’t another prototype challenging to replace what either of them bring from a purely commercial/consumer point of view.

So no, Drake is still going to be a dominant entity in hip-hop until there’s another person who that fan base can buy into with the same intrigue.
