no one is replacing drake for a long time bro
The nautre of reality doesnt work like that brother man
Music didnt stop wtih Micheal Jackson, The beetles, Elvis. etc.
It keeps on trucking forward.
THere will be people to surpass Drake, and they are clearly on the way. The Market is damn near naturally forcing this outcome.

“for a long time”
who is next in line then?

Drake came out of nowhere. Next one may just be like that.
It is but it takes having an eye for talent and putting your ego aside to push a new artist forward as your successor
I think Drake’s ego won’t allow him to give up his crown hence the Kendrick beef
I don't think it's ego. It's just that Drake has put himself in a position where he kind of can't stop gunning for #1. His deals with Universal (and I'm going to guess Live Nation due to the crazy amount of touring he's done in the past year), Nike, etc. really only work if he's still going strong as the commercial flag bearer for hip hop and in pop culture as a whole. Drake would have to get himself out of those deals and in a position where can be like Jay Z, getting paid for ownership, investments and operating in executive roles instead of being the cash cow himself.
No but Drake will still be dominant in his own way. He can still drop an album that sounds 300k+ with the right promo and lead single.
Honestly, I feel like Drake just needs to let go of the Views/Scorpion formula. That formula worked for those albums for the time they dropped but the mid quality of CLB, DLDT, and FATD has proven that putting out long albums with a "song for everybody" isn't a winnable formula and Drake is sadly synonymous for it even though he showed that he can veer away from it in 2022.
I think what's tricky for Drake is that he clearly cares about numbers/charts and it's become part of his brand so, even if Drake does have a strong album concept in mind, he'll constantly be insecure about "beating Kendrick" or proving that he "never fell off" by succumbing to the Views/Scorpion formula to pad the numbers, dominate the charts/streams, and showcase surface level dominance. I wouldn't be shocked if Drake scraps or postpones the PND album for this reason.
We'll have to see though.
Kanye is 47 currently
the last time you could make a serious argument that he was one of the main guys in rap was TLOP when he was ~40
Nah. It was Donda.
That album was a return to form, sparked a big wave, did impressive numbers, was nominated for AOTY, brought life back to this forum when it was slowly dying in early 2021, gave us the Larry Hoover concert, etc.
Donda is by no means a top tier album but I still to this day believe its biggest crime was being sandwiched in between the WOAT eras for Ye including the 2018-2020 and late 2022-2024 eras.
If it dropped in another era not overshadowed by negativity, niggas would rate it on the level of TLOP.
Idk but there’s something legit annoying as f*** about his voice and flow and lyrics as of late from For All the Dogs to the Scary Hours edition to the diss tracks (with the exception of Tried Our Best ofc). Beats have boring as s*** too. He evidently doesn’t have the sauce to cook up a Gods Plan/Nice For What/In My Feelings/Sicko Mode level hook, song, melody or quotables since that time
So idk tbh. And if the new 100 gigs songs are any indication…lol
Re-read this and tell me what the connection between inflated streams and being the most streamed might be
There isn’t any incentive at this moment for them to inflate Drake really they’d want Kendrick to be #1 im assuming
That’s no hate either, I’ve always given Drake grace through music problems I’ve had cause he always had ONE thing: he wasn’t annoying. No matter what, even through the waste of listening time that is Views and Scorpion, he always had a supernatural ability to not be annoying that I fw
Then to my dismay… For All the Dogs
honestly no. That Blue Green Red song wouldve been huge had he not had the beef.
I can see him having another interesting album run though but he needs to take a real long break. Like, come back next fall
I still believe the beef was largely bullshit
And I really, really want the PND album to be good
But Adin Ross giveaway gambling streams doesn’t bode well for anything, especially not the music.

Which goes back to the original statement.
Drake was suppose to enter his Jay-Z arch a long time ago.
But
He still wants to be that rapper up in the club popping bottles to his own s***.
Even Wayne at like 32/33 was already slowing down dramatically

Not only that, but he insists inserting himself in the forefront of youth culture, to the point of alienating his older audience. The streamer stuff is super cringey and weak, and desperate and it’s obvious that it is.

Drizzy just need to fall back and come strong late next year.
All the moves he has made post NLU has only just heightened the impact and effect of that song.
If Kendrick dropped and Drake went ghost for a whole year then popped back up with a summer hit next year.
It would of been waaay better. All this scrambling and damage control just makes the snogs impact hit harder
Internet will make you think so but at the same time he’s the most streamed so idk wtf going on. Hope he can shift over to Warner and drop from there. But regardless we’ve never seen a run like this before and most likely will never see it again. Unfortunately idk who would carry the torch aside from him. Puts rap in a scary spot
He's the most streamed cuz he has a f*** ton of songs on streaming.
And this whole idea that one rapper needs to carry the torch is exactly why people got tired of him and why the rap game is in the state that it's in now
There should never be "one guy" running a whole decade that's not what hip-hop is
Yes it does. Stop getting your music opinions from the Internet and talk to people outside. They like newer acts. The majority of people who make hip-hop what it is culturally are not just strict drake/Kanye stans like on ktt. People don't want to hear drake make the same type of music niggas was bumping in 2016. His formula is just old at this point
@edumist has seen me try to tell folks that the younger generation are gravitating towards newer rap acts as opposed to Obama-era administration ones and the cope from some of these mfs was insane lol
