Yeah the emotion is not there in the lyrics or music tbh, they just imply that level of depth in their aesthetics and whiny interviews and fans kind of project that onto the music I think
tf u going on about
Idk I see Ok Computer get a lot of credit as a concept record about the modern age
People even claim Kid A is a concept record about a clone
that's true but that's the reception.
I'd simply take them as melancholic alt-rock/pop with a few ventures into electronic music.
I think you’re reaching for something here
Can he not just enjoy weirder music? He shares playlists of what he listens to and it’s just as weird — if not weirder than the s*** he writes.
I feel that tbh. I just kind of realized after a while that almost anyone could get on a mic and falsetto wail some sad boy bullshit on a mic when they have that gorgeous musical backing with extremely high production value. I’m not saying they’re a bad band but comparing to the greats, I don’t think they’re as well rounded and I find them to be style over substance
Radiohead just one of those bands that I can't get really into. It's a few songs I've heard that are great. But there have been a number of times when I've had friends put their albums on while we hanging out and they bored the hell out of me.

But they do have substance. They don’t exactly make songs about nothing
Pablo Honey was ass. I've had friends who are fans of them tell me that's a fair take.

Yes
If you don't like something, you don't like it.

To me it borders on nothing. I mean I guess their work is about some vague sense of white British alienation but underneath the “vibe” I don’t find it very moving

their lyrics just aren’t for you then, and that’s fine.

This is what their music is about
step 1: listen to In Rainbows
step 2: stop there
No reason for In Rainbows fans to not like A Moon Shaped Pool
No reason for In Rainbows fans to not like A Moon Shaped Pool
it is very different lol, way more theatrical and dramlike
I like moon shaped pool tho

In Rainbows is a bit lighter in mood.

I'm not saying they're the same thing but they're similar in sound a little AMSP is like a dreamy version of that sound

Yeah true
Lol nah
you don’t want this conversation with me then cus they’re my top 1
This is something I actually noticed
I was expecting extremely deep and emotional writing but it’s just not, at least on the surface
The lyrics and the musical composition on ok computer create a mood that I would describe as a sense of abject despair and alienation brought upon by the trappings of modern life contrasted at times with a strong sense of hope, wonder and resilience in songs like let down, lucky, climbing up the walls, subterranean homesick alien, etc. It feels Sisyphean almost. It’s depressing, nihilistic music that motivates you (whether it was Thom’s intention or not) to push through and fight against your fate at the same time
Idk if I’m making sense
I also tried to listen to some of Kid A and it sounded so pretentious
I'd say that ppl GET pretentious about their music, but actually listening to it, it doesn't necessarily give those vibes
f*** Radiohead
f*** you
