Does Tyler even want to become a superproducer

Idk I can only assume from his fandom of nerd. I could be wrong but it seems like he always has his sights set on working with a multitude of artists and it never works out

He ain’t getting pushed aside on his own s*** at all, his last two releases went #1. And he does collab with artists he wants to f*** with with his production. It’s more based on the type of rappers that are blowing up now and the audience, it’s radically different from the early 2000s. And plenty of songs with weirder beats are getting made in the underground but that’s not what people want in the mainstream and if they did it’d get meme’d and Tik Tim’s to death where people would get sick of it before appreciating it. Lotta other factors too, rap in a whole different space almost 20 years later

i think he meant “why do people not go to Tyler for production more often” rather than “why can’t Tyler get people to work with him” as if he’s actively seeking out collabs

Songs not that great for a pop record

Tyler's musical talent and technicality work against him in that regard

im addmittedly drunk while making this thread but there’s no way u ho ass niggas turn this into some thing where I just wanted to talk about Tyler
I wanted to talk about more obscure production in mainstream music
And I feel like Tyler is one of the only people pushing for obscure production in mainstream music
Yet he gets pushed to the side every time

Tyler drops #1 albums now sells out arenas and even won a Grammy for his last album.

What do you mean pushed to the side

Not that great for a pop record? What does that even mean? I understand that those two wouldn’t really fit on that song as far as I can imagine, but Earfquake s***s on pop music standards

Yeah that’s still weird, Tyler in general is pickier with who he cares about (he ain’t like a “real” grinder type producer who just hands out beats to all types of artists big/small, bad/great) and the level of people he wants to work with are huge mainstream acts who got their own lanes and sound. I’d say it’s more open and shut that way. And I’m sure he could even make s*** that the pop acts he wants to duck with would love but he’s also Tyler, having him tagged to your s*** invites a whole different audience into your wave and the artists prolly realize that too and might not want that.

    Imo, I mean that

    1. It isnt catchy enough

    and

    2. It doesn't hit like a real good chorus/pop record would

the reason she turned it down is because she couldn't make it work

the reason we don't see beats like op anymore is more of the artist's fault than the producer. They aren't as creative or daring anymore. Thus producers make cookie cutter beats for cookie cutter artists to pay the bills

Not that all these accolades aren’t enough on their own, but Pharrell has such a big catalog of artists he knows he had a direct effect on by providing beats where as Tyler can’t say the same
He’s kind of a niche artist at this point.

Different era my guy, and also would say the Neptunes and Pharrell were absolutely better producers at their peak. Plus Tyler gonna add a lot of baggage to whoever he works with. Pharrell was a well loved and respected musician all around, views on Tyler are pretty mixed and his fanbase is f***ing miserable so I’d say their are a lot of extra factors outside just the music that add to it. And who is to say Tyler won’t get that chance some day but people started f***ing heavier with Pharrell cause he started getting hits in different lanes early and many people sought him out just for that reason too, maybe Tyler didn’t do that early enough? Hard to say

I mean are we really going sit here and act like the reason why Tyler struggles to get certain artist to collab with him isn't because he's still dealing with the negative stigma of his earlier edgelord years?

Dude used to say bad things about Selena Gomez constantly, then tried to smash Bieber, only to have gull to attempt to get him on a song after all that.

Pharrell was Pharrell on a diff era. So not only his greatness but it just wasn’t as much to choose from.

Nowadays everybody have their own little subsections of hip hop and stay in their lane.

Tyler would have to start collabing with other producers to gain the trust of these artist since all his biggest production work has been on his own music.

Also would be helpful if he starts putting younger artist on and taking them under his wing. The sound that’s popular now is poppin because of relative new artist were doing their thing with it and everyone wanted in on it.

So far the only artist you can say Tyler "put under his wing" is Kali Uchis, and I guess now he's trying to do the same thing with Teezo Touchdown.

Tyler being an edgy dork ironically made his career but also meant he will never leave his little patch of music he put himself in

I think he deserves it tbh
