feel like post 2016 ye albums have been like semi retirement epilogue stuff anyway. JIK and Ye more of a personal musical snapshot of his mental state in that moment of time instead of legit actual projects.

Yeah kinda like victory lap stuff imo too.

Even tho im not personally a big fan of them tho besides KSG, every project still has its amazing gems.

Seems like you just have a short attention span for music fam. Like you can’t sit with music for 5 minutes unless it has beat changes to satisfy your desire to move on. That’s what streaming era will do to ya

And honestly don’t get aging comments after a certain point because of course the album sounds like the era it was made in we are going on 11 years like what

agreed KSG is one my favorite ye projects easily but JIK and Ye are significantly worse from anything else in his disco, I still heavily f*** with JIK and ye tho.

Ar this point I'm not expecting anything else from him. If he gives me another amazing album like his first 6, great. But I just want him to be ok.

kanye's current discography could last me multiple lifetimes really hope he's doing all right have been very worried for ye ever since the breakdown on the pablo tour

how can you say MBDTF has songs that stretch on for too long and then list TLOP as your #2 lol

    Real 1 n same.

I only like Water, Everyrhing We Need & Closed on Sunday from JIK while i only like Ghost Town PT.1 n Yikes from Ye.

I respect the people that genuinely do like them, but overall nah im good. I gotta be honest with myself.

This album... is aging a little poorly. I actually sympathize with Anthony Fantano a little bit. There’s a lot of songs that stretch on too long. One thing I really appreciate about Yeezus, and even his later work, is nothing feels wasted. You’re not thinking, I’m ready for this to move on to the next musical idea, you’re just IN the music. MBDTF is the thirty minute drum solo. I just feel like other Ye albums have more flow. I’ll say it. The Runaway solo goes on too long. No one wants to listen to the Chris Rock skit. I wish Gorgeous had more instrumental change to justify the length.

    i had this phase

take a 5 month abstinence from his music and it will sound god-like again afterwards

side note; people seem to be growing off blonde like crazy recently

I wonder why that is. Always considered it the ultimate album now a wave of people calling it mid

this rating culture is definitely detrimental to the listening experience

I love the trilogy and think all 3 are masterpieces but something about post 808s ye albums hits so differently

    Key words: wave of people

It's just a wave. It'll dissipate and people will get amnesia like they do for everything.

Gorgeous is one of the greatest lyrical feats Kanye has accomplished, its a really traditional rap song. I'm not surprised you don't like the song considering you don't like to think when listening to music.

The entire point of Runaway is the ending so how can you say it goes on too long? Just say you don't personally like it.

MBDTF did not age poorly at all, it was perfect for the time, and the entire album still holds up perfectly fine. It's still a really influential album, with all the following albums that have heavy avant-garde production.

I can understand you saying you don't prefer it but to say an album with Runaway, DIAND, Gorgeous, All of the Lights, Power, Blame Game, Lost in the World, and Dark Fantasy "aged poorly" is just factually wrong.

That's why it's best to avoid all media when new music comes out.

Need to formulate your own opinion first

  • Mar 11, 2021

I disagree but get where you're coming from. it's my fav album!

  • Mar 11, 2021

Maybe I’m wrong. This is only how I feel at this point in time. For me, an opinion is a very fluid thing, something which doesn’t stay static, but changes and evolves. I will take these arrows to get my thoughts out there.

  • Mar 11, 2021

I don't think it's aged poorly in how it sounds, the sonics, all the bars, everything sounds great, but I can definitely see your issue with the arrangement of songs and the lengths, cause no matter how good something (anything) is if you get too much of it the same way it doesn't hit the same
There's no point on MBDTF where I strongly think "wrap it up" but it definitely maxes out on song lengths

his albums through to Pablo are more of a victory lap (TCD being a pre-emptive victory lap), they're super indulgent and over the top, ye and JIK is taking things back to basics and just making songs about what he's feeling specifically at the time as opposed to thinking critically about what the album should be
