One of the most impressive debuts in the pop-stratosphere filled with clean production, cryptic lyrics and very interesting soundscape. For example, Buzzcut Season is an incredible and mysterious song, there's so many theories on what it's about. Her music is multi-layered.
Although the album wasn't overwhelmingly praised during it's release, the project has aged extremely well over the years. None of Lorde's peers have come close to make something as fresh and relatable. I don't think anyone has really captured teenage essence quite like her on this album.
She went on to get praise and probably the craziest co-sign from Bowie himself.
"David Bowie believed the young New Zealand singer Lorde was “the future of music”, his longtime pianist Mike Garson has said. “David really liked Lorde, and he felt like she was the future of music, and they had a few wonderful moments together,”
I am not counting Blonde as a coming of age album because Frank wrote it at a much more mature time and level.
Yes

too many rap albums that are coming of age records to say this is the best one but it’s prolly the best pop one
this prolly the best one highkey
Wasn't she 28 when this came out? I guess it depends if you think coming of age albums can be written by adults, I think if we count this we have to count Blonde too
is there such thing as a coming of age album for adults? this is prolly it. what it has to say about consent and standing up for urself is very inspiring

i don't think this a coming of age album

i feel like a great coming of age art piece can and should be written by someone whose well into their 20s
you have enough distance from the really young times to lament on it, but you’re close enough that all the emotions are real
ctrl is def the coming of age record for my youth, i feel strongly that it represents the wandering lost feeling that comes with being in ur 20s.

The best coming of age movies were written by adults so I think it's fair to count them but it is more considerably impressive when someone like Nas or Lorde writes their best work at 14-17 perfectly capturing their experiences and emotions.
i don't think this a coming of age album
agree 2 disagree but when i hear broken clocks and the weekend i can’t help but think this is a coming of age record
